Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Boston/Norton MA 123 AM EDT Fri Jun 13 2025

SYNOPSIS
Gusty winds expected to diminish heading into tonight. Some showers are possible near the south coast tonight, but the risk remains low. Dry and warm through Friday with breezier and warmer conditions today. Then the weather pattern turns unsettled and cooler this weekend into Monday with a chance of showers at times but a washout is not expected. Warmer weather returns through the middle of next week with temperatures trending back above normal.

NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/
Key Messages:

* Gusty winds dying off after sunset

* Low chance for some showers near the south coast overnight

Another quiet night ahead with mostly dry conditions. Some lingering mid-level moisture over the south coast may aid in developing some spotty showers there, but these are not expected to be very impactful. Low temperatures are expected to be in the 50s and 60s, with the cooler temperatures primarily over the interior.

SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH 6 PM SATURDAY/
Key Messages:

* Dry and seasonably warm Friday

* Seabreezes developing along the coasts

High pressure builds and the cold front exits the region completely for Friday over southern New England. Winds will be much calmer than today, and seabreezes are expected to develop along the coastlines.
Lower level temperatures are expected to drop from slightly over 20C to closer to 15C at 925 mb, and with good mixing, surface temperatures are also expected to drop compared to today's. Highs Friday are expected to be more seasonable: mostly in the mid to upper 70s with slightly cooler temperatures along the Cape and Islands. Some guidance shows some 925 mb temperatures closer to 20C across parts of CT, so some spots could reach 80F, particularly in the CT Valley into NE CT.

A shortwave within zonal flow aloft will reach southern New England.
A low moving to the NE off the east coast will remain just south of the south coast, but these two things together will aid in increased rain chances late Friday night into Saturday morning. Winds will shift from primarily SE to the E and NE across the region overnight.
Lows Friday night are expected to be mostly in the mid to upper 50s for most with cloudy skies.

LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/
Key Messages:

* Cooler this weekend, with a risk for showers Saturday

* Warming trend next week, with above normal temperatures expected by late next week

Yet another weak low pressure is anticipated to pass south of New England Saturday. That means yet another risk for some showers this Saturday. A high pressure should then nudge into our region from the north for Sunday. However, since it is to our north, we'll still have to contend with the relatively chilly ocean impacting temperatures, especially along the immediate coast.

The timing works out when another weak low pressure should move on by to our south early next week. A stronger low pressure should then move from the northern plains states into Canada during mid to late next week. This time, our winds should be from the south, meaning the start of a warming trend. Above normal temperatures and more humid conditions are anticipated. This could mean some afternoon showers and thunderstorms each day, but confidence in the details are low this far in advance.

Moderate - 30 to 60 percent.
