Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Green Bay WI 541 PM CST Fri Dec 1 2023

Updated aviation portion for 00Z TAF issuance

- Brief chance for flurries in far east-central Wisconsin tonight.

- Light snow accumulations could lead to some slippery roads late Saturday night into Sunday morning. A few inches of snow are possible.

- Light wintry precipitation is also possible on Monday night into Tuesday morning.

Issued at 212 PM CST Fri Dec 1 2023

Cloudy skies will remain in place across the region today as active weather accompanying a low pressure system moves across southern Wisconsin. Although the majority of any precipitation will remain south of the region, there is still a small window for some precipitation to work its way into our areas as weak forcing arrives in east-central WI. The column looks fairly cold during this time, so light flurries are expected to be the predominant precipitation type. That said, no accumulations or impacts are anticipated as ground will be warm, any snow will be quite light, and the window for precipitation will be brief.

Going into the overnight period, cloud cover will linger on across the region, which will make for a warmer night when compared to last night. Low temperatures are still expected to be in the teens across the northwoods and 20s near the Fox Valley.

Saturday will be a fairly quiet day during the day, with clouds remaining in place across the region. Temperatures will make a slow rise similar to today, with highs reaching the middle to upper 30s in the afternoon.

An area of low pressure and an upper level disturbance will bring snow and some rain Saturday night into Sunday. Latest model runs this morning were showing the soundings were colder to support more snow than the previous forecast. Several models would suggest 1 to 3 inches of snow, however the ECMWF model would not support these type of snowfall amounts except across portions of east- central Wisconsin. Looking at the snowfall total plumes for Green Bay would suggest near an inch of snow, thus trended snowfall totals up across central into northeast Wisconsin, but not as high as some of the highest model outputs. Boundary layer temperatures on Sunday will probably limit additional snowfall totals in the late morning and afternoon as the heavier precipitation moves east of the area.

A clipper system will bring a chance of light snow Monday night into Tuesday. There could be a little rain mixed in during the day Tuesday. Another clipper system could bring a small chance of light rain or snow Thursday into Friday across the north. High temperatures this week should be at or above normal.

for 00Z TAF Issuance Issued at 534 PM CST Fri Dec 1 2023

VFR conditions and quiet weather are expected across most of the forecast area tonight, with the possible exception of occasional MVFR ceilings and flurries near Lake Michigan. On Saturday, east winds will cause MVFR ceilings to gradually overspread all but far northern WI during the day.
