Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Duluth MN 342 PM CDT Mon May 10 2021

DISCUSSION. (This evening through Sunday) Issued at 336 PM CDT Mon May 10 2021

Fairly quiet weather through the week with a slow warming trend highlight the forecast.

Tuesday will be dry with widespread afternoon relative humidity in the 18 to 28 percent range across the Northland. However, light northwest winds will limit the fire weather threat. Tuesday will also mark a slow warm up back to near normal temperatures after a chilly past couple of days. This warm-up is well depicted into next week with a slow rise in the 850 mb temperatures on the GEFS plumes. Widespread highs in the 60s are expected away from Lake Superior Wednesday and through the weekend.

The precipitation forecast is not as certain for the Northland this weekend and into next week. Fishing opener weekend looks mostly dry, however, the 12 UTC global suite hints at some light shower activity with a few impulses arriving from the Pacific Northwest. Thereafter, mass field differences increase significantly in the global data, and uncertainty in the forecast as well.
