Synopsis for the northern and central washington coastal and inland waters..A surface ridge will build over the coastal waters today and then shift inland on Tuesday. A weakening front will move across the area waters Wednesday into Thursday. Another weak frontal system looks to move into the waters late in the week.

SYNOPSIS
An upper level ridge will start to build through Tuesday, bringing generally quieter weather conditions through the area. A front will cross into our region Wednesday into Thursday for areas of light rain. A ridge will build in this weekend for another period of quieter weather.

SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/
It has been rather grey and cloudy today for most of the interior, while it looks rather sunny for places along the coast and in the mountains. This trend will continue throughout the day, with light gradients and enough low level moisture, this will keep the clouds from not really going anywhere this evening. High temperatures today have generally been in the mid to upper 40s.

A weak upper level ridge will start to build offshore tonight into Tuesday for another day of quieter weather with cloudy conditions.
May see some sunbreaks tomorrow through the afternoon but will overall be a generally cloudy with highs not fluctuating much, and staying in the upper 40s. Lows will be in the mid 30s. Fog will be possible into Wednesday morning as increasing offshore flow will hep skies clear somewhat.

The aforementioned ridge will shift east into Wednesday, allowing room for a front to cross the region in the evening through Thursday. Light rain is expected through the area with this front, with not any substantial accumulation expected. There may be some light snow showers in the mountains with snow levels hovering around 3000 to 4000 feet, again with not much accumulation expected. High temperatures again don't change much, staying in the upper 40s through Thursday.

LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY/
Ensemble guidance shows an upper level ridge attempting to build into our area on Friday, with other guidance highlighting a deep low to our southwest and a warm front just barely reaching our area. Overall, the pattern looks quiet and dry heading into the weekend, but that warm front might just quickly brush through the coast and the northern portion of our CWA late Friday. Kept with a chance of rain for these areas during this time, and dry everywhere else through the weekend.

A system possibly entering the area Sunday night into Monday may bring the next chance of increased precipitation chances.

AVIATION
An upper-level trough continues to shift south and east of the Pacific Northwest with upper-level ridging beginning to build in its wake. Thus, flow aloft will transition to a more northerly direction then northwesterly direction through the overnight period.
For the Puget Sound terminals, light north-northeasterly flow at the surface through this evening will turn light and variable by 06Z.
Mostly easterly flow at CLM and HQM from 5 to 10 kt. Good consensus for widespread IFR and LIFR conditions with dense fog and low stratus tonight (50% chance for IFR and 35% for LIFR), especially after 06Z for most terminals, though confidence is much lower for HQM with stronger offshore flow. Gradual improvement is expected, similar to today, with a return to MVFR after 18-20Z Tuesday.

KSEA...Upper-level ridging building into Western Washington with flow aloft turning north to northwesterly tonight. Light NNE flow at the surface, possibly light and variable at times after 06Z.
Abundant low-level moisture lingering over the region will lead to another round of dense fog and stratus with current IFR probabilities at 70% and LIFR at 53% tonight. Best timing for restrictions is from 06-18Z, with gradual improvement once again late Tuesday morning to MVFR and/or low-end VFR. Winds light and variable with a southerly prevailing direction into Tuesday afternoon.

Davis

MARINE
Upper-level ridging is allowing for surface high pressure to build eastward over the area waters. Strengthening offshore flow Tuesday afternoon as the surface high shifts inland will result in the next round of Small Craft Advisories into late Tuesday evening, especially through the Cascade Gaps into the eastern Strait of Juan De Fuca and the southern Washington coastal waters. A weakening cold front is poised to cross the area waters Wednesday, causing winds to shift to the south but maintaining Small Craft Advisory strength.
Another frontal system looks to move into the region Thursday night into Friday with another chance for headlines.

Seas across the coastal waters will continue to subside into this evening from 7 to 9 ft to 4 to 6 ft by tonight. Seas build again to 10 to 12 ft late Wednesday ahead of the next weakening cold front Wednesday and the next swell train. Seas then look to drop back below 10 ft Friday and continue into the weekend, but will likely be dependent on the track and timing of the next stronger frontal system.

HYDROLOGY
Rivers will continue to recede through the first half of the week. Hydrologically significant rainfall not expected with the front Wednesday night.

No river flooding is expected for the next 7 days. Felton
