area forecast discussion

Synopsis An exiting weak system will keep clouds and a chance of
showers over western washington today before a ridge passes over the
area Saturday. Better chances for rain are expected late Saturday
night and Sunday as frontal system arrives.

Short term today through Sunday The weak weather system
responsible for showers yesterday will continue to move away from
the area... But models show enough residual moisture over W wa to
leave mainly slight chance pops in the forecast for today. Upper
level ridging will move into the area starting tonight and will
pass over the area through the day Saturday. This will bring
another round of partly to mostly sunny skies and dry conditions.

This break in activity will not last long as by Saturday night the
next frontal system will already be at the coast. This feature
will cross the CWA Sunday bringing more widespread rain before
gradually tapering off to showers Sunday night. Latest model
solutions do show this feature being a bit slower than previous
runs and as such have altered the forecast accordingly.

Not a whole lot of variation expected in high temperatures over this
period with lowland temps generally in the mid 60s... Although
obviously Saturday will be the warmest of the short term with some
locations getting into the upper 60s or near 70. Smr

Long term Monday through Thursday Previous discussion... A
system passing to the north of the canadian border may bring
showers to W wa Monday although models disagree how far south this
precip will dip. A better case for rain can be made with a
passing front expected Tuesday... Although again there are
discrepancies in model solutions as to whether the front
dissipates as it moves through as the GFS would suggest of holds
together as per the ecmwf. Models agree a deepening upper level
trough will keep weather active and pops in the area for the
middle of next week as a couple of upper level lows within the
trough pass through the area. In addition to precip... This trough
pattern will bring afternoon temperatures down into the upper 50s
to lower 60s. Smr

Aviation Upper level ridge centered offshore with northerly
flow aloft today. Ridge shifting inland later tonight into
Saturday with the flow aloft becoming northwesterly. Light flow
continuing in the lower levels.

Areas of ceilings below 1000 feet continuing until around 20z.

Multiple cloud layers above the lower deck but by late afternoon
expect most locations to be inVFR with ceilings in the 4000-5000
foot range or just a scattered cloud deck. Stratus filling back in
overnight with ceilings lowering back down to below 1000 feet
10z-14z Saturday morning.

Ksea... Ceilings below 1000 feet until 19-20z. Ceilings improving
to 1000-2000 feet and then to around 4000 feet by 00z. Ceilings
lower back down to below 1000 feet around 10z overnight with
ceilings remaining below 1000 feet until around 18z. Southwest
wind 4 to 8 knots through Saturday morning with the exception of
some variable winds between 06z and 12z. Felton

Marine Light onshore flow will continue through Saturday. A
frontal system will move through the area Sunday. This system is
likely to produce advisory level southerly winds over the coastal
waters and portions of the northern inland waters and small craft
westerlies behind the front in portions of the strait of juan
de fuca. A weak frontal system will move through the area around
Monday night. Felton

Hydrology The daily hydrology discussion has ended until the
start of the next rainy season; it will only be updated as needed
until then.

NOTE: East coast views moved to GEOS-16. They are experimental and not well supported by NOAA so they may not be correct so be warned. This change required redoing a large amount of the GOES code. If the image you are expecting is not showing, please let me know. You may need to use the EDIT function to update your location.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
