Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Seattle WA 859 PM PST Sun Dec 8 2019

SYNOPSIS. Western Washington will remain dry into Tuesday as an upper level ridge builds across the Pacific Northwest. The next system will move through on Tuesday afternoon and evening, with an wet and unsettled pattern expected for the second half of the week.

SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/. Scattered light showers that bubbled up from about Seattle south earlier today have faded on radar in the last hour or two. Expect dry weather for the rest of tonight into the first part of Tuesday as an upper ridge builds in from the west. Low clouds tonight and Monday morning should scatter later Monday.

A front will move into the area on Tuesday. It's looking pretty weak but should be enough to bring a few hours of light rain to most areas - starting in the morning at the coast and then afternoon for the interior.

There should be another dry period behind the front later Tuesday night and Wednesday as a short wave upper ridge crosses the area. Temperatures will continue to run slightly above normal through the period.

LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/. Previous discussion . A period of wet and unsettled weather is in store for the second half of the week as a series of systems moves inland across the region. However, deterministic models and ensembles do hint at a few breaks in the precipitation in the long term, most noticeably on Saturday as a weak upper level ridge temporarily builds back into the area. Temperatures in the extended timeframe will mostly be in the mid 40s to low 50s, with overnight lows in the upper 30s to lower 40s. 14

AVIATION. An upper ridge will move over the area tonight and Monday with northerly flow aloft. At the surface, weak high pressure will move over the area with light offshore flow. The air mass is stable with low level moisture.

Low clouds will continue tonight. Locations that saw clouds lift earlier today should see ceilings lower again tonight. There will also be areas of reduced visibilities in fog tonight. The low levels will dry out on Monday with clouds scattering for most areas in the afternoon.

KSEA . Ceilings lifted to 5000-6000 feet earlier today but lower clouds are expected to reform after midnight tonight. Clouds should scatter entirely by early Monday afternoon. Light northerly wind.

MARINE. Weak weak high pressure will build over the area on Monday. A weakening front will reach area Tuesday. A stronger frontal system will affect the area Wednesday and Thursday.

HYDROLOGY. River flooding is unlikely for the next 7 days.

It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
