Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Miami FL 710 PM EST Fri Dec 1 2023

New UPDATE, AVIATION

UPDATE
Issued at 710 PM EST Fri Dec 1 2023

Broad high pressure across the area remains in place, while a sfc ridge over SoFlo gradually migrates east ahead of an approaching trough/front system from the NE. This will allow for winds to gradually veer to a more southeasterly flow through Saturday, and allow for moisture to begin advecting from the Caribbean. This will translate into warmer temps tonight with lows in the upper 60s inland and low-mid 70s near the coasts.

Generally dry conditions will continue tonight with little to no rain expected during the weekend. Inherited forecast remains on track and no significant changes are required for the evening update.

SHORT TERM
(Rest of today through Saturday)
Issued at 1243 PM EST Fri Dec 1 2023

Mid/upper-level ridging will continue building northward out of the Caribbean across south Florida while the surface ridge axis will begin shifting east ahead of an approaching northern stream frontal system. The more southerly component to low-level winds and increasing heights will continue the warming and moistening trend. Expect overnight lows in the low to mid 70s across the east coast metros, with upper 60s further inland. Across the interior, where winds are lighter, the increased moisture coupled with milder temperatures will allow for patchy fog development.
Highs will climb into the middle and upper 80s area-wide tomorrow, with only a slight chance of a passing shower across the east coast (primarily the Palm Beach coast).

LONG TERM
(Saturday night through next Thursday)
Issued at 125 PM EST Fri Dec 1 2023

The extended period will begin with South Florida located in a warm and muggy prefrontal regime ahead of a cold front pushing into North Florida on Sunday. Some isolated showers will be possible on Sunday, but deeper moisture remains lacking as the mid-lvl ridge to our south retains its influence. Temperatures will be warm with both highs (mid 80s) and lows (low to mid 70s)
being several degrees above normal. The weakening boundary should cross our area on Monday, although the southern half of the area will see very little negative Theta-E advection however, dewpoints and temperatures will drop a few degrees over northern portions of the area behind the front. Isolated showers will be possible near the lake region, but the fropa should be generally dry over the remainder of the area.

Cooler air will finally filter into the area Monday night into Tuesday with highs dropping to near normal (i.e. upper 70s/lower 80s) on Tuesday. A second and reinforcing cold front will cross the area on Wednesday which should result in temperatures and dewpoints dropping further for the Wed/Thursday period, with highs in the mid to upper 70s, and lows dipping down into the 50s (possibly 40s in the north) Thursday morning. The postfrontal high to our north will shift east by Thursday likely resulting in some veering late in the period which will moderate lows temperatures towards the end of the next week, but highs will likely remain mild through the workweek as 850 temps remain 10C or less. Rain chances will be negligible by mid-late week as a dry airmass settles in behind the two cold fronts.

AVIATION
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 658 PM EST Fri Dec 1 2023

VFR continues during the next 24 hours at all terminals, although some periods of MVFR cigs are possible after 15Z. Light E/ESE flow tonight should continue through around 14Z, then becoming SE around 10-12kt Saturday afternoon.

MARINE
Issued at 1243 PM EST Fri Dec 1 2023

Benign conditions are expected over the next few days. Calm seas and slightly breezy winds out of the southeast today will shift more southerly through the weekend. Scattered showers will be possible over the coming days. Winds will increase and turn northerly behind a frontal boundary early next week.

BEACHES
Issued at 1243 PM EST Fri Dec 1 2023

A moderate risk of rip currents will continue today and throughout the weekend for the Atlantic beaches.
