UPDATE
Issued at 905 AM EST Sat Dec 7 2024
After temperatures dipped down into the upper 20s across portions of Levy County but have since warmed to the low 40s based on recent surface observations, the freeze warning has been allowed to expire on schedule. Elsewhere, morning lows were mainly in the mid/upper 30s for the Nature Coast with mostly 40s for the remainder of the area, though some coastal sites managed to remain in the 50s mainly in SWFL. For the remainder of the day, sprawling high pressure across the Southeast promoting mainly sunny skies will allow temperatures to recover in the afternoon hours but still expecting highs to fall short of reaching climatological normal values today with mid/upper 60s across the Nature Coast and Tampa Bay area and low/mid 70s into southern areas. Otherwise, no changes planned this morning as the forecast remains on track at this time.
DISCUSSION
Issued at 223 AM EST Sat Dec 7 2024
Upper trough continues to move into the W Atlantic today as weak upper ridging develops in the W Gulf. Large high pressure area at the surface to keep the cold and dry airmass in place today through tonight with frost possible over the N Nature Coast tonight.
Weak upper ridging to build from the N Carib and hold over the FL Peninsula Sunday into early next week with low level airmass modifying producing slowly warming temps and increasing dew points for benign sensible weather conditions.
Upper longwave trough from the Plains moves eastward through mid week pushing the next cold front through the region Wednesday with highest PoPs over northern areas but mainly dry conditions in southern zones as upper support moves well N of the area. Another cold Canadian airmass to drop into the region behind the front with cold, dry and breezy conditions to end the work week.
AVIATION
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1232 PM EST Sat Dec 7 2024
VFR conditions will prevail throughout the remainder of the day and tonight as high pressure dominates the area. Winds out of the NE through this evening at 5-10 kts but decrease to 5 kts or less overnight into Sunday with a slight shift to the ENE by tomorrow.
MARINE
High pressure building into the region on gusty NE winds is producing choppy seas early this morning but expect winds and seas to subside late today. High pressure to settle into the region and weaken Sunday into early next week with generally light winds and seas. The next cold front to sweep through the E Gulf water Wed with hazardous conditions developing through the end of the week.
FIRE WEATHER
High pressure in the region will keep the cool and dry airmass in place through the weekend. Min RHs to drop below critical levels in Levy County today but light winds will prevent red flag conditions.
Increasing temps and humidity levels to end the weekend and continue through early next week.
