Fog continues to be the main aviation impact. Overnight conditions remain favorable with clear skies, light winds, and efficient cooling. Based on conditions this morning, however, there is some uncertainty as to the duration and overall extent of impacts. Given the location of most airports, fog may be very close, but could potentially not have a significant impact at the actual airport.
For now, keeping VFR conditions prevailing, with some TEMPOs for the most likely window of impacts at airports where there is greater confidence. Little change in this pattern is expected for the next few days.
UPDATE
Issued at 1000 AM EST Sat Feb 8 2025
It was another foggy morning across the region with a mix of radiative and advective fog impacting a large portion of the area.
Much of the Suncoast and portions of SWFL remained fog-free, however. The coastline shape in this region supports a slightly more convergent setup, favoring better mixing and thus making it harder for fog to form in this flow. Additionally, the ridge placement just off the Nature Coast and Big Bend region led to a more easterly flow from Tampa Bay southward, pushing the fog offshore.
Now that the sun has risen, rapid fog erosion has taken place over the last hour across the remainder of the area. Even looking up to the Northern Nature Coast, web cams are supporting more low clouds than fog at this time. However, coastal cameras suggest that fog is still present over the cooler coastal waters. Thus, the land Dense Fog Advisory has been allowed to expire, but the Marine Dense Fog Advisory will remain in effect for northern coastal waters.
The main adjustments to the forecast this morning have once again the forecast for fog. Persistence is a useful tool, with the pattern remaining locked in. As such, have made some adjustments to better reflect the expected extent and timing for fog. Otherwise, the forecast remains on track.
