Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 745 PM EDT Tue Aug 18 2026
New UPDATE, AVIATION, MARINE
KEY MESSAGES
- Hot and humid conditions will continue through the week.
- Moisture increases from north to south with rain chances closer to normal mid to late week.
UPDATE
Issued at 741 PM EDT Tue Aug 18 2026
Dry air over the region has limited rain and storm coverage today with only a handful of showers and storms moving through the region today. The strongest storms and showers were over the Nature Coast and moved through parts of Levy and Citrus Counties late this evening. These showers and storms will taper off over the next couple of hours with mostly rain-free conditions expected overnight.
These low rain chances and humid conditions led to widespread heat indices reaching up to 106-111 degrees this afternoon. Onshore flow will continue over the region, which will lead to some showers and a stray storm over the eastern Gulf waters during the morning hours and spreading inland late morning and into the afternoon on Wednesday. Made some slight tweaks to POPs for the next few hours based on latest radar trends and HRRR guidance.
Otherwise forecast looks good.
AVIATION
(00Z TAFS)
