Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 212 AM EDT Thu Apr 2 2020

AVIATION. VFR will prevail at all terminals during the next 24 hours. North to northeast winds in the 5 to 7 knot range the remainder of the morning will become northwest at 8 to 10 knots after 18Z. Light northeast to east winds are expected after 02Z tonight.

Prev Discussion . /issued 215 PM EDT Wed Apr 1 2020/

DISCUSSION . A broad upper low spins over the New England states with associated troughing extending south through the western Atlantic. Upper ridging extends from Texas northward through the western Great Lakes. This ridge will slowly progress eastward over the next few days and become the dominant upper feature through the end of the week and into the weekend as the upper low spins off the New England coastline.

On the surface, The frontal boundary that pushed through the state yesterday evening currently extends across southern Florida. High pressure builds back in behind this front, bringing pleasant weather through the end of the week and into the weekend. We will get a very brief shot of cooler air today and Thursday with closer to seasonal temps with highs in the mid 70's to low 80's and even some upper 40's to mid 50's early Thursday morning. This cool down doesn't last long as we will be back in a warming trend once again by the weekend and into next week.

MARINE . A tight pressure gradient between a cold front over southern Florida and high pressure building into the southeast U.S. will keep gusty winds over the coastal waters through this evening. Will keep SCEC for all eastern gulf coast waters and high risk for rip currents at local beaches through this evening. As high pressure builds in over the SE U.S., winds will gradually shift NE, then E and decreasing through the end of the week. Winds will remain less than 15 knots and seas 2 feet or less into the weekend with no other marine impacts expected.

FIRE WEATHER . A cold front sits over southern Florida, while high pressure builds into the southeast U.S. Drier and cooler air has filtered in behind this front with some critically low RH values, however winds are expected to stay light precluding any red flag concerns.

GEOS Local Image of Southeast    EDIT
NOTE: East coast views moved to GEOS-16. They are experimental and not well supported by NOAA so they may not be correct so be warned. This change required redoing a large amount of the GOES code. If the image you are expecting is not showing, please let me know. You may need to use the EDIT function to update your location.

I do not sell or share any user data or anything else for that matter. The only personal information I save is in the site log which has a line for each page view which includes the IP address your browser sends in the header as well as which page you requested. I use this to block hackers and other bad actors. I do not use this raw data to create profiles on users. I periodically delete the log files. There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
