Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Miami FL 622 AM EST Fri Dec 6 2019

Aviation. Quiet weather is forecast through the TAF period. The surface wind is forecast to become more east southeast by mid day today across the area. Otherwise, no significant weather concerns through the TAF period.

Prev Discussion. /issued 251 AM EST Fri Dec 6 2019/

Short Term . Today through Saturday Evening . While the models show an active pattern, the weather itself is forecast to remain quiet and dry for the end of the week, and the beginning of the weekend.

High pressure, currently over the southeastern US this morning, should move off to the east through the day. This should allow for the surface flow to become more east to southeasterly today, advecting a warmer airmass into the area, along with a bit more moisture.

Looking aloft, a 500 mb short wave approaches the area today, and moves across the area tonight. At the surface, a weak low should develop over the northeastern Gulf, as well as a weaker surface low over the Atlantic waters off Central/North Florida. Models are indicating a weak frontal boundary may accompany these lows, producing some shower activity well away from South Florida. This front stalls well to the north by Saturday, never bringing any significant weather to the area through Saturday evening.

So, basically, warmer for the next couple of days, with some increasing cloud cover is really all that is in store for South Florida for Friday through Saturday.

Long Term . Sunday through Next Week .

The aforementioned weak surface low passing north of the region will keep South Florida under easterly flow to end the weekend and begin the week. Very low rain chances of only a few showers mainly over the local waters possible to end the weekend into early next week.

Mid-week models continue to depict a mid-upper level trough moving across the eastern US with a low pressure system moving through the Great Lakes with a cold front draped to the south moving through the southeast US. Ahead of this front winds will veer southeast advecting more moisture into the region beginning Wednesday with rain chances increasing along the eastern portion of the peninsula and the Atlantic waters. It is still early as models continue to have differences on timing and strength of this frontal passage. While individual models differ, will continue with the consensus at this time with increased shower potential ahead of the front for South Florida.

Temperatures will be back near normal or a couple degrees in the upper 70s to lower 80s when winds become more southerly. The noticeable increase will be in dewpoint temperatures rising back into the mid to upper 60s with humidity increasing.

Marine . No significant weather for the area, with high pressure slowly weakening today, and a front stalling well to the north. This should keep the area dry, with little impact to marine conditions through Saturday evening.
