Synopsis for the middle texas coastal waters..
a weak offshore flow over the bays and near shore waters and a weak to moderate offshore flow over the offshore waters will continue tonight into Sunday morning as surface high pressure builds from the northwest. The flow will become weak onshore along the coast Sunday afternoon as high pressure moves east. A weak northeast to east flow can be expected the first half of next week, then becoming southeasterly during the latter half and increasing to weak to moderate levels. New AVIATION

SHORT TERM
(Tonight through Sunday night)
Issued at 249 PM CST Sat Dec 2 2023

Per deterministic output from global/mesoscale NWP models, an upper level disturbance is expected to continue to move across the Southern Plains/TX tonight then lift toward the Midwestern CONUS, resulting in drying conditions/subsidence over the CWA. PWAT values are expected to fall well below normal tonight and this dry condition is expected to persist Sunday/Sunday night. Another upper system is expected to follow the foregoing disturbance move across the Plains Sunday night and force a frontal boundary to approach the CWA by the end of the period, per deterministic output. In addition, synoptic scale ascent (700-300mb Q-vector convergence), associated with a slowly E/NE moving positively- tilted upper trough across northern Mexico, is predicted to move across the CWA during much of the period (ECMWF deterministic).
Convergence along the front approaching the CWA Sunday night, and synoptic scale ascent across the CWA notwithstanding, no significant precipitation expected owing to limited moisture. The NAM deterministic run predict a thermodynamic profile by 12z Sunday characterized by a low dew point depression at the surface and very dry immediately aloft, characteristic of radiation fog.
However, confidence is fairly low considering SREF visibility probability output. Nevertheless, decided to add patchy fog for the 06-14z Sunday period to the northern Coastal Bend owing to uncertainty.

LONG TERM
(Monday through next Friday)
Issued at 249 PM CST Sat Dec 2 2023

Key Messages:

- Gradual warming trend through the work week.

- Slight increase in rain chances by the end of the week along the coast.

A progressive upper level pattern is expected next week. The work week will start off with an upper level trough draped from south of the Baja northeastward across S TX, followed by ridging Tuesday and Wednesday and another trough approaching the area Thursday and continuing eastward across S TX Friday.

Despite the troughs of low pressure, moisture will be limited with PWATS less than an inch, thus precipitation is not expected Monday through Thursday. However, the GFS and ECMWF do show slightly deeper moisture right along the coast Tuesday through Thursday, and despite the ridging aloft, can not rule out a rogue shower or two. For those days have gone with silent PoPs (<10%). By Friday, the NBM indicates slightly deeper moisture across the Coastal Bend sufficient enough for a slight chance (10-20%) of showers. Moisture will be deeper across the coastal waters, leading to a better chance (20-35%) of showers.

A weak northeast flow will develop Monday and will become more easterly through mid week. The northeast to east flow across the coastal waters may lead to tides running above normal. However, am not expecting that the water will reach the dunes, nor create coastal flooding during high tide due to the fact that astronomical tides will be running lower next week and winds will be light most of the week. The P-ETSS is indicating tide levels at Aransas Pass to generally be around 1ft above MSL at times of high tide next week.

With winds becoming more onshore next week, temperatures will gradually warm with highs around 80 by Friday and Saturday, generally west of I37. This is 5-10 degrees above normal for this time of year.

AVIATION
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 542 PM CST Sat Dec 2 2023

Cirrus band will continue to stream across the region tonight into Sunday morning. Light northwest winds will become variable during the overnight. RAP/HRRR/CONSShort/NBM show a good chance for fog to form in the Victoria Crossroads/Mid-Coast region around 06Z Sunday. Will show fog/MVFR vsbys beginning at 06Z for VCT and lower to LIFR from 08-12Z. Conditions will improve to MVFR at 12Z and VFR by 15Z. Winds will shift around to southwest to south as the weak high pressure ridge moves to the east in the afternoon.

MARINE
Issued at 249 PM CST Sat Dec 2 2023

Weak to moderate offshore flow tonight through Sunday owing to building surface pressure from the west/northwest. A weak northeast to east flow can be expected the first half of next week, becoming southeasterly the latter half and increasing to weak to moderate levels. Isolated to scattered showers possible late in the week.
