Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 329 AM EST Wed Nov 25 2020

DISCUSSION. The weather today will be dominated by high pressure centered over southern Florida aloft and ridging from the Atlantic into the Carolinas at the surface. This high pressure will keep east and southeast surface winds in place, with temperatures running several degrees above normal (highs in the low 80s). Although some low level moisture will allow for a bit more cloud cover than yesterday, mostly rain free conditions should hold through the day.

As a shortwave trough crosses the Ohio River Valley and Mid- Atlantic tonight and Thursday, the surface ridge will shift south into Florida while a cold front pushes into the northern Gulf of Mexico and washes out north of the forecast area late in the week. Although the front will not make it far enough south to bring an airmass change, moisture pooling on the southern side of the front will increase low level humidity slightly, and could lead to some patchy fog each of the next few mornings. Otherwise, warm and generally rain free conditions will hold through at least Saturday.

Another shortwave will dig into the southeastern US Sunday, and be reinforced by a stronger trough/cutoff low Monday and Tuesday. This system will support a stronger cold front that is forecast to move through the forecast area on Monday. Showers and storms will be possible ahead of this front on Sunday and Sunday night, then a more organized squall line will likely push through the area on Monday, with favorable shear to allow for a few stronger storms. A much cooler and drier airmass will filter into the area behind the front, with lows Tuesday morning ranging from the upper 30s over the Nature Coast, to mid 50s over southwest Florida. Tuesday afternoon highs are only expected to top out in the upper 50s to upper 60s under breezy northwest winds.

AVIATION. Generally VFR conditions are expected through the next 24 hours. Some limited low level moisture could result in patchy fog or low stratus during the early morning hours, especially over southwest Florida, but confidence is too low to mention in the TAFs at this time.

MARINE. High pressure north of the waters will shift east into the Atlantic today and tonight as a weak cold front moves into the northern Gulf of Mexico and washes out north of the waters Thursday and Friday. Exercise Caution level wind speeds will subside by late morning, then winds will generally remain around 15 knots or less through the rest of the week. The possible exception will be a few showers or storms possible west of the Nature Coast Wednesday night and Thursday.

FIRE WEATHER. No relative humidity concerns for the next couple of days. Parts of the Nature Coast could see high dispersion indices this afternoon.

NOTE: East coast views moved to GEOS-16. They are experimental and not well supported by NOAA so they may not be correct so be warned. This change required redoing a large amount of the GOES code. If the image you are expecting is not showing, please let me know. You may need to use the EDIT function to update your location.

It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
