SHORT TERM
(Tonight through Monday night)
Issued at 240 PM CST Sun Dec 10 2023
Winds will continue to die down across the area into tonight as the responsible trough continues to eject eastward. The mid and upper level flow will become more zonal as we head into tomorrow with a weak mid-level ridge beginning to nudge into Texas tomorrow night.
Temperatures will dip down into the 30s tonight across much of the region with portions of McMullen and Live Oak Counties seeing temperatures just below freezing for a few hours. We have therefore issued a Freeze Warning for these counties tonight.
Dry air will remain entrenched across the region through the day tomorrow before the flow turns to become onshore Monday night.
This will help dewpoints to recover from the 20s and 30s Monday to the 40s to near 50 along the coast by late Monday night.
No precipitation is expected through the short term with high temperatures tomorrow afternoon in the mid and upper 60s (around 5 degrees below normal). Lows will not be as cold tomorrow night with temperatures in the 50s along the coast and the 40s elsewhere.
LONG TERM
(Tuesday through next Saturday)
Issued at 240 PM CST Sun Dec 10 2023
Moisture convergence ahead of the midlevel low that will be moving into the area by mid week will allow for increasing rain chances through the end of the week. PWAT values increase to around 1.5 inches which is above climatology for this year therefore with the forcing from the environment, a chance for showers (50-70%) will exist mainly Thursday through Friday. The environment didn't appear conducive for thunderstorm development over land with non existant CAPE values and higher CIN values over land. Though with thunderstorms possible over the waters, a stray thunderstorm potentially could creep in along the coast.
Wave periods increase to about 8-10 seconds by midweek as well with the steady easterly fetch that will likely allow wave run up to the dunes. PETSS has waves reaching 1.5 ft Wednesday afternoon which means coastal flooding could be possible and the need for Coastal Flood Advisory may be needed through the end of the week. The possibility for rip currents is also high with the agitated seas.
AVIATION
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 240 PM CST Sun Dec 10 2023
VFR conditions are expected through the period with winds continuing to decrease through sunset. Winds generally less than 10 knots are expected tonight through tomorrow.
MARINE
Issued at 240 PM CST Sun Dec 10 2023
Northerly winds will continue to diminish through the evening.
A SCA remains in effect for the offshore waters through 6 PM. A weak offshore flow will occur tonight as high pressure settles into the region and become weak onshore on Monday as high pressure moves east.
Monday night expect a weak to moderate northeast flow which looks to begin to strengthen through the week. There is a possibility of small craft conditions Tuesday night through the weekend as the flow continues to increase.
