Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 245 AM EDT Mon Apr 20 2026
New DISCUSSION, AVIATION, MARINE, FIRE WEATHER
- Gusty winds will produce hazardous marine conditions over the eastern Gulf Waters through Tuesday night.
- Critical RH values and gusty winds will produce hazardous fire conditions today and Tuesday.
DISCUSSION
Issued at 245 AM EDT Mon Apr 20 2026
Cold front is moving across the region at this time with gusty north to northeast winds developing behind it. The boundary will continue to move south today with much drier air moving into the area. However, there will still be enough moisture over the southern interior and southwest Florida this afternoon and early evening for a few showers and possibly a thunderstorm. The drier air will overspread the entire area for Tuesday with the gusty northeast winds continuing as high pressure settles over the Mid- Atlantic States. During mid to late week the high will drift off the southeast U.S. coast and out into the western Atlantic Ocean, but continue to ridge into the southeast states and north Florida.
This will shift the low level flow to a more east to southeast direction, and this could bring enough moisture moving back into the area late in the week into the weekend to see a few afternoon and evening showers each day, but no widespread rainfall is expected. Otherwise, the seasonably warm and mainly dry weather pattern will continue across the area through the weekend.
AVIATION
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 245 AM EDT Mon Apr 20 2026
Some areas of MVFR ceilings will be possible this morning, otherwise VFR conditions are expected to prevail. North to northeast winds around 10 knots will increase to 10 to 15 knots with higher gusts this morning and continue into this evening before diminishing to around 10 knots again later this evening.
MARINE
Issued at 245 AM EDT Mon Apr 20 2026
A weak cold front will move south of the waters today with increasing winds and seas to start the week. A Small Craft Advisory is in effect into Tuesday, but breezy northeast to east winds will continue through midweek. Winds and seas will subside for the second half of the week as high pressure stretches across the waters.
FIRE WEATHER
Issued at 245 AM EDT Mon Apr 20 2026
A weak cold front will continue to move south across the region today with a few showers and possibly a thunderstorm possible over the souther interior and southwest Florida. Otherwise, much drier air will begin to spread south today and this combined with breezy northeast winds will produce some hazardous fire weather conditions, primarily across the Nature Coast. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Levy County this afternoon into the early evening. More critical relative humidity values and breezy northeast to east winds are expected for Tuesday with a Fire Weather Watch in effect for much of west central and southwest Florida.
