KEY MESSAGES
Issued at 509 AM EST Sun Nov 10 2024

- Hazardous boating and beach conditions today with a High Risk of rip currents

- Continued above normal temperatures then turning slightly cooler late week

PREVIOUS DISCUSSION
Issued at 509 AM EST Sun Nov 10 2024

Today...Breezy/gusty E/SE winds around high pressure off the mid Atlc coast. Gusts around 30 mph will occur at times along the coast through this morning. Isolated to scattered showers will push toward the W/NW off the Atlc waters. The best chance for showers will be along the Volusia coast followed by the Brevard coast. More isolated showers and sprinkles will push onshore the Treasure coast and well inland to Orlando metro. Above normal temperatures will continue, reaching the mid 80s most areas but likely falling short of any record highs.

Tonight...Some increase in moisture will move in from the SE and produce a chance for showers along the coast much of the night. Persistent onshore flow will keep min temps much above normal, holding in the low to mid 70s along the coast.

Mon-Sat...A sfc trough axis currently just east of the Bahamas will be steered NW-N around the periphery of the Atlc ridge, reaching S FL and the adjacent Atlc waters Mon. NHC has been tracking this feature but continues to give it only a 10 percent chance for development. Nonetheless, moisture will increase with this feature on Monday resulting in scattered showers mainly near the coast. With rain chances at 20-30 percent, the focus will be along the coast and south of Orlando. A weak cool front is forecast to push across the area Tuesday and absorb this disturbance, shunting the deeper moisture east away from the area.
There may be lingering showers on Tuesday along the Treasure coast but prospect for lightning storms looks too low to mention.
A period of breezy/gusty north to northeast winds is forecast Wednesday but max temperatures will only drop a couple degrees holding in the lower 80s. Have kept Wednesday dry but forecast model soundings show enough low level moisture to produce isolated, fast-moving showers off the Atlantic on Thu.

A somewhat stronger cool front is forecast to push cleanly through the area Thursday night. Noticeably drier but only slightly cooler air is expected behind this front. Temperatures Fri-Sat will lower only back to near normal for this time of year as sfc wind flow maintains an onshore component. But wind flow looks to be fairly light as weak high pressure settles into the SE U.S.

High pressure off the mid Atlc coast this morning will continue seaward while producing breezy/gusty east winds along with hazardous boating conditions. Small Craft Advisories are in effect for all the local Atlc waters through the day. Seas will peak up to 9 feet well offshore Volusia/Brevard. Then the pressure gradient will loosen and winds begin to decrease tonight and Mon as a trough axis lifts NW and reaches the local Atlc waters Mon.
Wind speeds are forecast to decrease around 10 knots Mon though wind directions will be southerly over the southern waters and northerly over the northern waters due to proximity of the trough axis. Seas will be slower to subside but will fall below 7 feet offshore and 6 feet nearshore by afternoon Mon.

Then reinforcing high pressure over the Great Lakes will build back down the eastern seaboard and bring an increase in NE winds Tue-Wed which will build seas back to 6-8 FT by Wed. So Small Craft Advisories will likely be raised again. NE winds continue Thu but not as strong but seas will remain poor to hazardous especially in the Gulf Stream.

VCSH ongoing along the coast and SFB, and expanding to the remaining terminals after 15Z. VCSH is forecast to end around 00Z for the interior terminals, DAB, and TIX. Ongoing VCSH overnight from MLB southward will be possible. ESE winds 5 to 10 knots will pick up to 10 to 15 knots, with gusts up to 25 knots possible. No VIS or CIG concerns at the moment, though some guidance is hinting at the potential for some patchy fog early Monday morning, particularly across the interior terminals. Do not have mention of VIS reductions, but will continue to monitor and make adjustments and amendments as needed.
