New AVIATION
SHORT TERM
(Tonight through Friday night)
Issued at 155 PM CDT Thu Apr 24 2025
- Low chances for showers and thunderstorms across the Coastal Plains and Brush Country today.
- Increasing threat of dangerous swimming conditions, a moderate risk of rip currents is in effect through Friday
Mid-levels have dried out somewhat since yesterday. PWATs from this mornings sounding at CRP came in at 1.52" which is still above normal, near the 75th percentile. There is still instability in the lower to mid-levels with another shortwave moving across the region today, keeping some low end PoPs in the forecast. Look for 15-20% chances mainly across the Brush Country. Tonight through the rest of the period have opted to go with silent PoPs due to lowering PWATs and limited forcing as we head into the weekend.
Afternoon temperatures today and tomorrow will range in the mid 80s northeast to the 90s out west but will be a few degrees warmer tomorrow. Overnight lows will hover around the low to mid 70s region- wide.
LONG TERM
(Saturday through next Wednesday)
Issued at 155 PM CDT Thu Apr 24 2025
Key Messages:
- Rain chances return to South Texas by midweek
- Above normal temperatures expected to persist through next week; 100s possible out west
Expect the region to be under the influence from the aforementioned mid level ridge that is draped over the region. This will promote quiet conditions across the region with highs generally in the 80s and 90s. The NBM ensemble is hinting at a medium to high chance (50- 70%) for temperatures to exceed 100 degrees in the Rio Grande Plains beginning Monday. This is expected to persist through the remainder of the week. Conditions will remain mostly dry outside of a low chance for diurnally driven convection each day with the arrival of the sea breeze through Tuesday. As the ridge progresses to the east, expect onshore flow to return with an approaching disturbance to the north. This will promote moisture return to the region, which will combine with some embedded shortwaves and moderate instability leading to a low to medium chance for showers and thunderstorms Wednesday and Thursday. With this possibility being still days out however, uncertainties on timing and amounts still remain so be sure to check back for future updates.
AVIATION
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 601 PM CDT Thu Apr 24 2025
Expect MVFR to IFR CIGS to develop at all sites overnight. Vis restrictions should be minimal with a wind remaining up a bit, but have an MVFR VIS for ALI and VCT. CIGS likely slow to lift tomorrow, but should rise above 3kft by mid-day. Breezy southeasterly winds are expected in the afternoon.
MARINE
Issued at 155 PM CDT Thu Apr 24 2025
A gentle to moderate breeze (BF 3-4) can be expected to continue through this weekend. Onshore winds will increase early next week becoming moderate to fresh (BF 4-5) with winds across the bays and nearshore waters south of Port Aransas approaching Small Craft Advisory conditions.
FIRE WEATHER
Issued at 155 PM CDT Thu Apr 24 2025
Winds and humidity levels will stay below critical thresholds through next week. Recent rainfall across portions of South Texas has reduced the fire risk across the region. However, elevated fire thresholds could be approached early next week across portions of the Rio Grande Plains when minimum afternoon relative humidity values drop below 30% and ERC values trend above 65% across Southwest Webb County.
