Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Corpus Christi TX 1132 AM CST Sat Feb 8 2025
New AVIATION
SHORT TERM
(Today through Sunday)
Issued at 223 AM CST Sat Feb 8 2025
Key Messages:
- Patchy to area of fog today/tonight
- Well above normal temperatures through the period
Warm and rain-free conditions can be expected across South Texas through Sunday. Temperatures will be well above average with highs in the low 80s to low 90s today, and overnight lows in the 60s tonight. Highs on Sunday will be a couple degrees cooler ahead of the next frontal boundary, but will still range in the 80s areawide.
Overall, the primary concern continues to be the low to medium potential for patchy to areas of fog and sea fog development.
Visibilities this morning have already dropped to below 1 mile along the immediate coast in response to the sea fog, while portions of the Coastal Bend have observed visibilities down to 1-3 miles at times. Farther inland, there is still a 20-40% chance of visibilities to fall below 5 miles through the rest of the morning hours today, with additional chances for redevelopment overnight tonight. Having said that, the cloud deck remains very low and generally below 1kft. Mostly cloudy to cloudy skies this morning are forecast to mix out in the afternoon, before returning overnight.
Winds will generally remain elevated throughout the day, then become light out of the south to southeast past midnight tonight.
LONG TERM
(Sunday night through next Friday)
Issued at 223 AM CST Sat Feb 8 2025
Key Messages:
- Above normal temperatures and dry conditions through the early portions of next week
- Cold front will approach the region mid next week
The region will be under the influence of a low level ridge located over the Gulf to begin the long term. This will allow for highs to generally be in the 80s, with some areas out west potentially topping out in the 90s. Models depict a cold front approaching the area to the north around midweek as the ridge progresses eastwards. There is a good agreement that the front will stall to the north Tuesday, before finally pushing through Wednesday/Thursday. This will lead to low chances of rain across the Coastal Bend and Victoria Crossroads. Highs behind the front will briefly return to the 60s and 70s to close out the work week with lows in the 40s and 50s. With the influx of drier air into the region behind the front, elevated to critical fire weather conditions will be likely.

VFR conditions are expected to continue today with gusty winds across the eastern sites. MVFR ceilings and visibilities are expected to come back into the forecast this evening with IF/LIFR ceilings and visibilities tonight into early tomorrow morning.
Conditions should slowly improve tomorrow morning with MVFR conditions returning by mid-morning.
