New UPDATE

UPDATE
Issued at 940 PM EDT Thu Sep 12 2024

Showers and storms struggled to develop this afternoon, despite more than ample moisture. However, lingering showers from earlier activity over the Gulf of Mexico continue to push eastward prior to 10PM this evening. Expect this activity to diminish as it moves towards the east coast over the next hour or so. Additional showers and a few storms cannot be ruled out along the coast overnight. But, the highest coverage should remain over the Atlantic waters, thanks to westerly steering flow. Any storms will be capable of locally heavy rainfall, lightning strikes, and gusty winds.

Otherwise, generally dry conditions are forecast through the overnight hours, though low clouds will remain possible north of I-4. Light offshore flow overnight, with temperatures falling into the mid to upper 70s.

AVIATION
(00Z TAFs)
Issued at 738 PM EDT Thu Sep 12 2024

Showers are beginning to drift into the local area from the Gulf Coast. Meanwhile, showers have developed along the Space and Treasure Coast. Showers are forecast to linger over the interior through around 2Z. Models show some signal for showers and storms persisting along the coast through the evening. Will have to monitor for updates. MVFR CIGs possible after 8Z for LEE and SFB.
LEE has the highest chance of reductions, with prevailing BKN015 forecast. Additional showers and storms possible Friday afternoon, especially along the coast. Westerly winds in the morning becoming northerly through the day, remaining around 10kts or less.

MARINE
Issued at 330 PM EDT Thu Sep 12 2024

Tonight...E/SE winds across the waters will weaken into tonight to around 5-10 knots, becoming S/SE and eventually S/SW overnight.
Small craft should continue to exercise caution over the offshore waters of Volusia County through early evening for seas lingering up to 6 feet. Otherwise, wave heights will range from 3-5 feet into tonight. A few offshore moving storms will be possible into this evening, with additional isolated to scattered showers and storms developing over the coastal waters overnight.

Friday-Monday...(Modified Previous Discussion) A stationary front will remain in place over the local waters through a better portion of Saturday before shifting north of the area Sunday into Monday. Winds will be relatively light, around 10 kt or less, with a more variable direction on Friday, becoming northerly on Saturday. Winds then become offshore on Sunday and Monday, with E/NE winds developing each afternoon with the sea breeze. Wind speeds will remain around 5-10 knots. Rain and storm chances remain elevated Friday/Saturday before decreasing Sunday into next week. 3-4 ft seas Friday will fall to 2-3 ft Saturday. Increasing swells are then forecast to build seas up to 6-7 feet offshore late weekend into early next week.
