KEY MESSAGES
Issued at 345 AM EST Fri Dec 12 2025
- Sunny and pleasant this afternoon after a cold morning.
- Slightly above normal temperatures this weekend with some increase in clouds, especially south of Orlando as a warm front drifts northward.
- The next cold front will sweep through Sunday evening/night.
Turning noticeably cooler but strong north to northeast winds will produce very hazardous boating and surf conditions early next week. Windy along the coast with beach erosion possible.
DISCUSSION
Issued at 345 AM EST Fri Dec 12 2025
Today-Sat...Sfc high centered over north-central FL today will move east over the SW Atlc Sat while a trailing ridge axis remains across central FL. This will produce a light wind regime with a light onshore flow developing each afternoon as a result of the sea breeze. After chilly temperatures in the 40s this morning under excellent radiational cooling conditions, a pleasant afternoon is forecast with full sunshine and near seasonable highs in the low to mid 70s. Not as chilly tonight with most areas holding in the 50s, except mid to upper 40s north of Orlando. A little more clouds will creep in Sat but another pleasant day with slightly above normal temps reaching the mid to upper 70s. Dry conditions through at least sunset Sat.
Sat night-Mon...The old front to our south will lift northward some as a warm front and bring an increase in clouds and a chance for showers and isolated storms south of Orlando Sat night and early Sun. The next cold front will push quickly south across the area late Sun/Sun night. No rain is expected with the front. But the main impact will be increased winds SUn night and Mon as strong high pressure (1040mb) builds SE across the eastern CONUS.
The north to northeast pressure gradient will support a period of windy conditions along the coast with Wind Advisories possible Sun night into Monday. While it will become noticeably cooler with max temps holding in the 60s on Monday, because the winds turn onshore so quickly, the cold continental airmass will quickly modify over EC FL sparing us any freeze concerns.
Rough, pounding surf and minor beach erosion will accompany the strong north to northeast winds immediately behind this front Sun night into Mon but fortunately the duration will be short, likely encompassing just 1-2 high tide cycles.
Tue-Thu...The strong high will weaken as it settles southward over GA then shifts eastward over the Atlc. A trailing ridge axis will remain near 30N lat so a general easterly flow will dominate Tue-Wed at 10-15 mph veering SE Thu 10 mph. Mainly dry though isolated Atlc showers may push onshore the coast from time to time. Temperatures will undergo a warming trend each day reaching the upper 70s/near 80 Thu (mid 70s coastal Volusia). Lows will generally be in the 50s, holding in the lower 60s along the coast by Thu morning.
MARINE
Issued at 345 AM EST Fri Dec 12 2025
High pressure nearby will produce favorable boating conditions today and Sat with light winds and seas 2 FT nearshore today and 1-2 FT Sat. Seas in the Gulf Stream will fall below 5 FT this morning and below 4 FT this eve. Dry conditions through Sat then scattered showers and isolated storms Sat night into Sun across the southern waters as a warm front drifts northward from south FL. NW flow 10-15 KT on Sunday will sharply increase late Sun/Sun night out of the north as strong high pressure builds over the waters behind a cold front. The tight north-northeast pressure gradient will support wind speeds 20-30 knots with gusts to Gale force Sunday night. Seas will rapidly build 6-9 FT nearshore and up to 12 ft in the Gulf Stream. NE winds decrease 15-20 knots by late Mon and veer E/NE Tue at 10-15 knots. Seas will be slower to subside, reaching 4-5 FT nearshore Tue with lingering 7 FT seas in the Gulf Stream.
