New AVIATION

NEAR TERM
Issued at 117 PM EST Sun Jan 12 2025

For the latest NE FL and SE GA Daily Key Messages please visit: https:// www.weather.gov/media/jax/briefings/nws-jax-briefing.pdf

Temperatures have only warmed into the 40s across much of SE GA by midday to the low 50s across NE FL despite mostly sunny skies under passing cirrus clouds. High temperatures were on track to only reach near 50 across SE GA near the Altamaha River basin to near 60 southward toward Ocala under light and variable northerly winds. Mid level clouds were approaching from the Gulf of Mexico and will begin to overspread the region later this afternoon and into the evening hours.

Mid level clouds will overspread the area tonight as a broad area of low pressure develops across the north-central Gulf of Mexico, with increasing chances of rain showers from the west after midnight toward daybreak Monday mainly for the Suwannee River Valley and areas of SE GA west of a Douglas to Fargo line. Low temperatures are still expected to fall after sunset reaching minimum values within a couple hours of midnight (mid 30s across SE GA to low 40s inland NE FL), then temperatures begin a gradual warming trend through daybreak Monday into the upper 30s to 40s as cloud cover thickens and precipitation approaches. Some patchy frost is possible for inland SE GA near and east of the Highway 1 corridor, but it will be limited due to cloud cover and the invading rainfall. Still too warm aloft for any 'flurries' tonight and the consistently advertised temperature moderation after midnight across SE GA limits freezing rain potential with the official forecast maintaining a cold rain as the primary weather impact for SE GA into Monday morning.

SHORT TERM
(Monday through Tuesday night)
Issued at 117 PM EST Sun Jan 12 2025

A wave of low pressure will move east across the northern Gulf Monday morning, with a frontal boundary extending east from it across forecast area. Rain showers will focus along this boundary.
As the low moves southeast across the eastern Gulf Monday afternoon, the boundary will sink south of the forecast area. The rain showers along the boundary will gradually move south of the region Monday night. With the boundary across the area Monday, there will be a wide a range in temperatures. Highs will range from the upper 40s over interior SE GA, to around 60 over north central FL.

Strong high pressure will build to the northwest Tuesday through Tuesday night. Skies will clear from northwest to southeast Tuesday, and remain clear Tuesday night. Another cooler than normal day is forecast for Tuesday. A fairly widespread inland freeze for SE GA Tuesday night.

LONG TERM
(Wednesday through next Sunday)
Issued at 117 PM EST Sun Jan 12 2025

Strong high pressure will be north of the area Wednesday. This high will sink closer to the region Wednesday night as it weakens.
Another below normal day is forecast Wednesday. Wednesday night is expected to be coldest night this week, with a fairly widespread inland freeze.

The high will center just to the west Thursday. A wave of low pressure will move east southeast across the central Gulf Wednesday night through Thursday. At this time, rain is expected to pass just to the south Thursday, but latest guidance is trending toward a solution closer to area. Yet another below normal day Thursday.

The high center will build overhead Thursday night, then to the east on Friday. After another mostly clear and cold night Thursday night, the position of the high will result in a change in flow on Friday.
The flow will gradually become more from the south southwest through the day. This will help push temperatures back closer to seasonal averages.

The high will continue to push off to the east Friday night into Saturday morning continuing the flow from the south. This will keep temperatures above freezing Friday night. A cold front will move southeast into the area Saturday afternoon, then push to the southeast Saturday night into Sunday. Showers will accompany this frontal passage. Warm advection ahead of the front, will bump temperatures above normal for Saturday. Depending on the timing of the front, Sunday could remain at or above normal as well.

AVIATION
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 640 PM EST Sun Jan 12 2025

VFR conditions will continue through 12z, with mid level clouds increasing, and bases around 5-10 kft. Winds will be light and generally below 8 knots through the TAF period. Conditions will begin to deteriorate after 12z through the rest of the TAF period as stratiform rain spreads over the area. Indicated VCSH after 12z with prevailing -RA toward 15-19z with low stratus restrictions falling quickly to IFR across JAX, VQQ and CRG by 17-18z and SGJ, SSI, and GNV by 20-22z.

MARINE
Issued at 117 PM EST Sun Jan 12 2025

High pressure across Georgia today shifts east tonight as a broad area of low pressure develops across the northern Gulf of Mexico.
This low will cross the Florida peninsula south of the local waters Monday night into Tuesday. Small Craft Advisory conditions will be possible mid-week over portions of the local waters.
