KEY MESSAGES
Updated at 458 AM CDT Mon Apr 13 2026
- Sunny skies and warm temperatures are on tap at least through the next several days. With a lot of outside activities like sports and festivals, sun and temperature related health risks are present. Make sure to use sunscreen and drink enough water.
- Potential exists for fog development each morning.
SHORT TERM
(Now through Tuesday night)
Issued at 1123 PM CDT Sun Apr 12 2026
Apart from a few clouds moving in and out, there won't be much to expect from the weather. Warming temps will continue to tack on a degree or two each day possibly reaching 90F by the end of this week. Spring has definitely sprung, enjoy.
LONG TERM
(Thursday Night through Sunday)
Issued at 1123 PM CDT Sun Apr 12 2026
An upper ridge is expected to remain across the southern Gulf from Thursday night through the weekend. Shortwaves are expected to move through the Mississippi River Valley on Thursday and again Saturday night or Sunday morning.
The shortwave moving through on Thursday isn't expected to have much moisture with it, and if any precipitation occurs at all Thursday evening, it will be well north of Interstate 10/12. Looks to be a somewhat better chance for showers and/or storms late Saturday afternoon into Sunday, but at this point, rain amounts don't look to be sufficient to overcome the current dryness. That one will actually be accompanied by a weak cold front, which will provide some temporary cooling of temperatures (5-10F cooler) for Sunday into Monday or Tuesday. Until then, much above normal temperatures continue with highs well into the 80s, with a few 90 degree readings possible near and north of the Interstate 12 corridor Friday and/or Saturday. (RW)
AVIATION
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 458 AM CDT Mon Apr 13 2026
VFR should hold for all terminals through this taf cycle. If there is any IFR conditions, they would be for very short durations mainly around sunrise.
MARINE
Issued at 1123 PM CDT Sun Apr 12 2026
Strong surface high pressure from the northeast gulf into the Atlantic continues to produce a moderate easterly to southeasterly fetch over the northern Gulf. Winds have eased to just under 15 kt and should remain there through this week.
