Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lake Charles LA 950 PM CDT Thu Jun 4 2020

DISCUSSION. Local 88Ds show all the daytime convection has come to an end with sunset/loss of heating. All of the latest guidance indicates a continued rain-free overnight which is already being advertised in inherited grids/zones so no changes are needed there.

A couple of changes which are being made to the grids/zones at this time include the addition of patchy fog wording to portions of the area as ground moisture from recent rains remains sufficient while mostly clear skies/nearly calm winds will promote good radiating conditions by sunrise. Also, min temps were bumped up slightly based on latest obs/trends in both temp/dewpoints.

Elsewhere, inherited grids/zones in good shape. Update out shortly.

PREV DISCUSSION. /issued 634 PM CDT Thu Jun 4 2020/

AVIATION .

VFR conditions are expected at all area TAF sites through this evening as convection continues to diminish. A thunderstorm or two could linger over the next few hours across southern LA and VCTS were carried over through 02Z at KARA and KLFT from the previous TAF package. Clear skies and light winds will continue through the overnight hours which will support the development of patchy fog during the early morning. Any fog should dissipate near sunrise.

PREV DISCUSSION . /issued 355 PM CDT Thu Jun 4 2020/

DISCUSSION . Weather map shows high pressure ridge across the Gulf, keeping a light southeast wind. Cristobal has weakened to a depression while still inland over the Yucatan, expected to only slowly move today. Radar showing scattered showers and thunderstorms across most of the area, expected to diminish by sunset.

By Friday, will have a little more influence of a building upper level ridge from the west that should inhibit convection to 20% during the afternoon hours over Central and South Central Louisiana. Meanwhile, Cristobal still expected over the Yucatan, expected to begin moving northward. Again, the exact track continues to be low confidence, but the entire system, regardless of exact center, is expected to move in an northern direction and beginning to affect the region Saturday afternoon with increased chances of showers and thunderstorm. Sunday and Monday's forecast will be highly dependent on the forecast track, but seeing numerous to widespread showers to be the rule for most of the area.

After the passage of Cristobal late Monday into Tuesday, chances of showers and thunderstorms will diminish, but likely remain above normal, along with temperatures.

DML

MARINE . A mainly light to modest onshore flow will persist for the next few days. Through the weekend, winds and seas are likely to increase and build as Cristobal is expected to move north across the Gulf of Mexico. All marine interests should monitor the latest forecasts on this system as the week progresses.

It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
