Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Jacksonville FL 214 PM EST Fri Mar 5 2021

Near Term. /through Saturday night/ .

Strengthening high pressure will be centered to the northwest this period.

West to east oriented cold front will slowly move south of the forecast area this evening. Mid to high cloudiness will stream east across the area from approaching low pressure this evening. This low will move east southeast across the gulf Tonight, and across south FL late Saturday. Best chance for precipitation along and north of the low track. Rain chances will be on the low side with this event across SE GA, with dry air from high to the northwest suppressing the rain further south. Better chances exist across NE FL, especially south of a line from Gainesville to St Augustine. As the low tracks further to the east southeast Saturday night, the rain chances will end from northwest to southeast across area. Winds will be gusty at the coast this period, especially Saturday afternoon through Saturday night.

Due to onshore flow pattern across the relatively warmer coastal waters, lows Tonight will run a little above normal. Cold advection will yield below normal temperatures Saturday and Saturday night. A little bit of patchy frost will be possible across inland SE GA Saturday night.

Short Term. /Sunday through Tuesday/ .

Strengthening high pressure will build toward the region from the northwest through the day Sunday. Subsidence under this ridge will provide for sunny skies but continued cold advection will keep temperatures below normal.

The high center will settle just to the north Sunday night, keeping the cool and dry airmass in place. Below normal temperatures expected to continue Sunday night, with a potential for inland frost. A significant widespread frost is possible over inland SE GA.

Strong high pressure will be centered near the Carolina coast Monday into Tuesday. The flow will become more onshore through this period. Moisture will gradually increase into Tuesday, with a better chance for cumulus development. Temperatures will continue to be below normal Monday through Tuesday, but a gradual warming trend is expected. Lows Monday night will still be low enough over SE GA for patchy frost.

Long Term. /Tuesday night through Friday/ .

Weakening high pressure will be centered to the northeast through this period, with the ridge extending west across region. This period is expected to be dry. Enough moisture will wrap around the backside of the ridge though for diurnal cumulus development each day.

Temperatures will trend near normal through Wednesday, then above through Friday.

Marine.

High pressure will be centered northwest of the region through the weekend. An area of low pressure will track east across southern FL Saturday into Saturday night spreading rain across area. The high will strengthen as it builds just to the north northeast early next week. The high will then slowly move toward the east northeast for the rest of the week, with ridge extending back across region.
