SHORT TERM
(Today through Wednesday night)
Issued at 225 AM CST Mon Dec 4 2023
Patchy dense fog has managed to develop once again early this morning within a fairly narrow band of marginally higher surface level moisture extending from near Lafayette to Morgan City.
Expect visibility restrictions to remain isolated to this region as dewpoints are five to ten degrees lower across the rest of the area. The 00Z KLCH RAOB observed very dry air just off the surface extending up to 400 mb, so any localized uptick in winds over the next few hours would be enough to dissipate this fog. At worst, fog will dissipate no later than 14Z.
Scattered to broken upper level clouds continue to stream across the region this morning ahead of a reinforcing, dry frontal boundary progged to push through the region later this morning.
This should push the remaining clouds southeast out of the region with a moderate increase in northerly winds developing at the surface during the afternoon. These will be relatively short lived as high pressure becomes centered across the region by tonight where it will remain through Wednesday night. The near ideal radiational cooling environment will allow overnight lows to fall into the upper 30s to lower 40s both Tuesday and Wednesday mornings with very pleasant afternoon highs in the 60s.

LONG TERM
(Thursday through Monday)
Issued at 225 AM CST Mon Dec 4 2023
As we start the period a surface ridge will have moved off to the east and be centered over the southern Appalachians. This will allow for low level southerly flow off the Gulf to bring warmer and more humid air into the forecast area as we end the week.
On Saturday a northern stream short wave will dig down to the south into the Plains and move off to the east and through the region by Sunday. This will help push a cold front across the forecast area sometime on Saturday into Saturday night.
Good moisture profiles look to be in place ahead of the front with PWAT values around 1.5 inches. Lift ahead of the front and short wave should work with the moisture to produce widespread showers.
Enough low level instability with modest CAPE values that thunder should be able to mix in with the shower activity. Still too early to say how strong any convection may be although decent low level jet and shear values will have to be watched closely.
