Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lake Charles LA 1224 PM CDT Tue Aug 4 2026
New DISCUSSION, AVIATION, MARINE, FIRE WEATHER
KEY MESSAGES
- A typical summer weather pattern will prevail through this week with a few afternoon thunderstorms each day.
- Afternoon highs will climb into the low to mid 90s each day with maximum heat indices ranging from 101 to 109.
DISCUSSION
(This evening through next Monday)
Issued at 1213 PM CDT Tue Aug 4 2026
The dog days of summer are upon us and the weather pattern seems to have gotten the message as a persistent and somewhat stagnant weather pattern is expected to continue through the week. The area will remain sandwiched between a sprawling upper level ridge that continues to bake the southwestern U.S. and an upper level low centered over the southeastern U.S. The resulting weak gradient aloft will allow for daily, diurnally driven afternoon thunderstorms (20-40% chance). Any storms that develop will likely have little forward motion and will, instead, be propagated by outflow boundaries and the daily sea breeze. At the surface, weak high pressure over the central and eastern gulf will maintain light southerly winds through the weekend. Temperatures will remain near seasonal normals with afternoon highs climbing into the low to mid 90s each day with maximum heat indices ranging from 101-109.

AVIATION
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1213 PM CDT Tue Aug 4 2026
VFR conditions will prevail through the taf period. A few showers and thunderstorms will develop through the afternoon (20-40%)
along the inland advancing sea breeze. These will have little forward motion and will dissipate by 01Z. Weak high pressure over the northeastern gulf will maintain light southerly winds through the taf period.
Jones
MARINE
Issued at 1213 PM CDT Tue Aug 4 2026
Light south to southwest flow will prevail through the weekend along with seas of 1-3 feet. Precipitation chances will range from 10-20% each afternoon.
FIRE WEATHER
Issued at 1213 PM CDT Tue Aug 4 2026
KBDI values continue to climb, sitting between 500 to 600. The somewhat lower dewpoints and humidity have departed with minimum RH values expected to range from 50% to 60% each afternoon through the rest of the week. Scattered daily afternoon thunderstorms (20-40%) are expected each day through the weekend.
