NEAR TERM
(Through Tuesday)
Issued at 208 PM EST Mon Dec 11 2023
A frosty night is expected across the area with clear skies and relatively light winds leading to favorable radiational cooling conditions tonight. Overnight lows are expected to range from the upper 20s to mid 30s across most of the area. A few high clouds could encroach across the area late tonight.
For Tuesday, high pressure will be centered northeast of the area with northeast surface winds maintaining a dry airmass. Mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies are expected with highs ranging from the mid 50s to mid 60s across the area.
SHORT TERM
(Tuesday night through Wednesday night)
Issued at 208 PM EST Mon Dec 11 2023
We can expect some upper level ridging to develop spreading west from the Caribbean, and a strong surface high centered over the Ohio River Valley will continue our benign weather. We can expect temperatures to warm up a little (about average) with highs in the low to mid 60s. Morning lows will start in the upper 30s/low 40s Wednesday morning, and warm to the mid and upper 40s for overnight Wednesday.
LONG TERM
(Thursday through Sunday)
Issued at 208 PM EST Mon Dec 11 2023
To start off, there is a lot of uncertainty for the long term forecast. It all centers on where an expected gulf cut-off low will develop and track.
For the start of the term, upper level ridging will build and at the surface, high pressure. The pressure gradient will be increasing winds over land and sea by Thursday. The rain chances begin to increase over the weekend with PoPs about 40-50 percent on Sunday. Location of rainfall and amounts will vary depending on where the Gulf low tracks, so we will continue to monitor. Please return for further updates.
Temperatures for the long term will be relatively steady and around normal for this time of year with afternoon highs in the 60s and morning lows in the mid to upper 40s.

Cool and dry conditions are expected for the next several days with northerly winds becoming northeasterly as surface high pressure settles over the Southeast CONUS. With the recent wetting rain, there are currently no significant fire weather concerns.
HYDROLOGY

Due to recent rains, the Aucilla River at Lamont is in Minor flood. We do have a couple of more rivers in the Big Bend in Action Stage, but are forecast to remain below Minor flood. Dry weather is expected for the next several days. The next chance for rain will be over the weekend. There is uncertainty regarding how much rainfall we could expect, but we will continue to monitor the system as it develops over the next several days.
