KEY MESSAGES
Issued at 547 AM EDT Fri Apr 10 2026
- No rain is expected through the end of next week. Drought conditions will worsen. Fire concerns will remain elevated. Use extreme caution with any outdoor burning. Please heed burn bans where they are in effect.
- Hazardous marine conditions are ongoing. Northeast breezes will continue over the Gulf waters and a Small Craft Advisory continues until mid morning.
- High rip current risk for Walton and Franklin county beaches today. Residents and visitors are urged to heed posted beach flags and stay out of the surf where high risk of rip currents are posted.
SHORT TERM AND LONG TERM
(Today through next Thursday)
Issued at 325 AM EDT Fri Apr 10 2026
Upper ridging on the heels of a departing upper low further into the western Atlantic will remain in place over the southeast US and strengthen into next week. Large scale subsidence associated with the upper ridge will put a squash on any rain chances with persistent dry air in the 800-400mb layer and PWATs under an inch.
Surface high pressure in the southern Appalachians will keep easterly surface winds going while a cold front dips south into the upper Midwest. That front dissipates late in the weekend with a reinforcing high pressure center moving off the eastern seaboard Sunday. Ridging emanating from this high will turn surface winds southeasterly while perhaps aiding in patchy fog development in the eastern Big Bend towards the start of the next work week.
Unfortunately, no rain chances are in the forecast at this time with drought conditions continuing and worsening. Highs will generally be in the 80s with perhaps near or lower 90s for portions of the area mid to late next week.

Easterly winds, initially strong this morning with a gradual decreasing in wind speeds through the day, will continue with high pressure located to our north. Moderate east winds will persist into Sunday at which time high pressure shifts east and surface winds become southeasterly Monday. A general light to moderate southeast flow will then setup through much of next week.
FIRE WEATHER
Issued at 325 AM EDT Fri Apr 10 2026
East winds will be in place today and Saturday with high pressure in the Appalachians. As said high pressure moves off the east coast later this weekend, surface winds will transition to southeasterly.
High dispersions are expected each day, mainly inland through the weekend. Afternoon humidities will fall to the mid 20 to mid 30 percent range though some slow moistening will occur into next week after a few days of southeasterly flow.
No rain is expected for the next 7-10 days. Drought conditions will only get worse, exacerbated by afternoon temperatures running 5-10 degrees above normal from through at least the middle of next week.
HYDROLOGY
Issued at 325 AM EDT Fri Apr 10 2026
No rainfall is expected over the next week. Severe (D2) to Exceptional Drought (D4) will therefore continue or worsen.
