NEAR TERM
(Today and tonight)
Issued at 255 AM EDT Mon Apr 21 2025
An H5 ridge off the east coast of Florida will continue to keep showers and storms away from the area again today. High clouds will continue to stream through the region thanks to southwesterly flow on the western side of the ridge. This should keep temperatures about where they were Sunday, or the middle to upper 80s for most locations away from the immediate coast.
A weakening cold front enters northwestern Alabama this evening and will allow surface moisture to increase. However, the proximity of the H5 ridge and the subsequent subsidence inversion from it will trap that moisture near the ground. In other words, fog is a concern for more of the area later tonight, especially across the Florida Panhandle and southeastern Alabama. Most of the guidance suggests it being from near/over Apalachicola National Forest up to just west of Dothan. The combination of clouds and/or fog for much of the region should keep temperatures in the lower to middle 60s tonight.

.SHORT TERM & LONG TERM...
(Tuesday through Sunday)
Issued at 255 AM EDT Mon Apr 21 2025
Generally warm and dry conditions are expected through the short and long term period with mid-level ridging over Florida. A shortwave is forecast to push a cold front into the Appalachians and MS River Valley Monday into Tuesday, but this front is forecast to stall out well to the north of our area. Still, the gradual increase in moisture across the region along with this front to the north could produce a couple of showers and storms over the northern portions of the area periodically this week. A second cold front is forecast to approach the area late next weekend.
Temperatures are forecast to be quite warm in the 80s early in the week before warming to the mid 80s to low 90s mid to late week. If the ridging ends up stronger than forecast, highs could end up even a few degrees higher than currently forecast. Lows are forecast fairly steady in the low to mid 60s.

Warm and dry conditions continue the next several days with no wetting rain in the forecast for at least the next 5 to 7 days. High afternoon dispersions are anticipated through mid-week with increasingly daily chances of fog, especially Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Winds will generally be out of the southeast to south through the week. Forecast MinRH should remain above critical thresholds in the 30 to 40 percent range away from the coast.
