Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED National Weather Service Jackson MS 934 PM CST Sun Feb 8 2026
New MESOSCALE UPDATE
KEY MESSAGES
- Warm and mostly dry conditions can be expected for much of the upcoming week.
MESOSCALE UPDATE
Issued at 928 PM CST Sun Feb 8 2026
Latest satellite imagery/RAP analysis showed a shortwave trough over the central Plains that will continue dropping southeast tonight. This feature has led to an increase in mid and high level clouds across our CWA this evening. These clouds will continue into Monday morning but no measurable precipitation is expected.
These clouds will also help temperatures remain above normal tonight. /22/
DISCUSSION
Issued at 1241 PM CST Sun Feb 8 2026
A broad upper level ridge will be the primary influence on forecast area weather through this week resulting in above normal warmth and mostly dry conditions. Southerly low level flow will support the development of late night and early morning low stratus/fog.
A couple of weak shortwave troughs are forecast to move through the mean ridge position during the mid/late week, and these may bring light rainfall. Forecast confidence drops considerably as we go into next weekend due to large amounts of uncertainty concerning where a potentially active baroclinic zone will set up. Will note however that there was an uptick in the potential for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall with the most recent guidance. /EC/
AVIATION
