SYNOPSIS
Areas of strong and gusty northeast to east Santa Ana winds will continue this morning along and below the coastal slopes of the mountains with winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 55 mph and isolated gusts to 65 mph. The winds will gradually diminish this afternoon and evening. Lowest humidity will fall to around 10 percent today for inland areas with a slight recovery to 10 to 15 percent on Thursday. A weak low pressure system moving inland through northern Baja on Thursday night will bring a return of onshore flow for Friday into the weekend with cooler days and with higher coastal humidity spreading inland. For next week, drier offshore flow is expected to return with periods of gusty Santa Ana winds.

.SHORT TERM (Today through Friday)...

The winds will then diminish through the afternoon and evening. The lower level flow will become onshore on Thursday and strengthen on Friday with southwest to west winds for the mountains and deserts for Friday afternoon and evening with gusts to 25 to 35 mph.
Lowest inland humidity today will once again fall to around 10 percent with a slight recovery to 10 to 15 percent on Thursday as weak onshore flow returns. A weak low pressure system moving inland through northern Baja and far southern California on Thursday night will bring stronger onshore flow on Friday with higher coastal humidity spreading inland.
High temperatures will be warmer today with a few degrees of cooling beginning to spread inland on Thursday with greater cooling on Friday with Friday high temperatures 5 to 10 degrees below average for the valleys, coastal slopes of the mountains, and inland coastal areas. There could also be some return of night and morning coastal low clouds and fog.
.LONG TERM (Saturday through Tuesday)...
For the weekend, there are small chances for precipitation either from weak low pressure systems moving southward off the West Coast or southward inland of the coast. NBM daily chances for measurable precipitation have decreased to 15 percent or less.
For next week, ECMWF ensemble output shows the return of the more dominant recent pattern of high pressure aloft off the West Coast with northerly flow aloft across the western states with periods of dry offshore lower-level flow for southern California.
ECMWF ensemble output for Campo continues to show differences in the both the timing and strength of periods of offshore flow for next week. There has been some narrowing in the spread in timing for a period of offshore flow for late Monday into Tuesday. While there is still spread in the intensity from weak to stronger, the overall distribution has trended stronger over the past 24 hours.
There is also another period of moderate to strong Santa Ana winds possible around Thursday of next week.

Areas of E/NE winds with gusts 20-35 kt, locally to 45 kt, will continue mainly in the foothills, parts of the northern Inland Empire, and inland Orange County, strongest 15-23Z and weakening thereafter.
