SYNOPSIS
Showers and thunderstorms from this afternoon over the San Bernardino Mountains, the Apple and Lucerne Valleys have now shifted east towards the lower Colorado River Valley and are unlikely to drift west again tonight. Dry weather is forecast Thursday through Sunday. Night and morning low clouds west of the mountains will clear to near the coast each afternoon.
DISCUSSION
FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE...
SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO COUNTIES...
Showers and thunderstorms developed this afternoon across San Bernardino County, including the Mountains, Apple and Lucerne Valleys. They have since dissipated and shifted to the east. The closed low that passed to our south is becoming an open wave over southern Arizona and conditions are becoming more stable over SoCal so that the chances for deep convection will be lower going into tomorrow. The marine layer low clouds were disrupted for a time this afternoon/evening as mid level debris clouds from the showers/tstms move to the southwest in the flow aloft.
From previous discussion...
Valley, mountain and desert highs will be a few degrees warmer on Thursday and Friday as the upper low moves east and weak ridging builds over the Southwest.
Over the weekend the night and morning low clouds will once again extend into the valleys each morning with slow clearing to near the coast in the afternoon. A trough deepening off the coast of Southern California will bring a few degrees of cooling Sunday, and even greater cooling and a deeper marine layer Monday.
AVIATION

Coast/Valleys

Mountains/Deserts...Areas of clouds at/above 9000 ft MSL will continue through 09-12z Thu. West winds will gust locally 25-35 kt through mountain passes into adjacent desert slopes through 16Z Thu.
