SHORT TERM
(Today through Monday)
Issued at 336 AM EST Sun Dec 3 2023
The sfc low which has brought all this Gulf moisture to our area continues to move to the northeast out of the Mid-Mississippi Valley. A cold front associated with the system is currently located over northern Alabama and should be entering Northwest GA over the next couple hours. Given the continued moisture advection, light showers and drizzle are expected across the majority of the area until the front actually passes (although less than 0.25" further are expected). The cold front should make it through the ATL metro by around 15Z with post frontal conditions significantly drier. No PoPs are expected past the frontal passage, however winds out of the northwest may be a little gusty at times.
Patchy fog may thicken north of I20 over the next several hours, particularly in the higher elevations of North GA. Should more widespread coverage of thick fog develop, an advisory may be necessary through the early morning hours.
Post-frontal temperatures will drop, however no significant cold air is expected. Highs will remain in the upper 50s to low 60s and lows will stay in the 30s and 40s (above freezing).

LONG TERM
(Monday night through Saturday)
Issued at 336 AM EST Sun Dec 3 2023
The long term pattern will begin with mostly zonal flow aloft.
However, by Tuesday night, an upper trough will dig over New England and the Mid-Atlantic states. This may bring some very light rain showers and even a few light snow showers to the NE mountains. No accumulating snow is anticipated at this time, and precipitation probability is low. Colder temperatures are expected by Wednesday, with daytime highs ranging from the 40s across the NE mountains to near 60 across the extreme SE zones. Wednesday night will be the coldest night of the extended period, with low temperatures ranging from the lower 20s in the highest elevations of the NE to near freezing from the Atlanta area S. Temperatures are forecast to rebound to near normal late in the work week. Another upper trough is forecast to dig over the MS Valley by next weekend, with a chance of showers returning to the area.
Will need to keep an eye on fire weather for Thursday. Dry air will remain in place as daytime high temperatures begin to climb again. Additionally, SW winds will begin to increase, with gusts over 15 mph possible across portions of N GA. /SEC
