SYNOPSIS
Unsettled weather with light rainfall amounts continues through today. High pressure builds in for Mon and Tue followed by a strong cold front Wed. Cool high pressure builds in behind the front Thu.

NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/
As of 5 AM Sun...Locally dense fog across the Crystal Coast west through Duplin County this morning will be the main weather challenge. Expect fog to be most dense near bodies of water and will continue through 9 AM before lifting. Issued an SPS for these areas. The heaviest showers are off our coast and while a few showers are possible through midday, most will remain dry. A cold front will bring a small line of showers to the area by late afternoon. Model soundings still show the potential for some at least thinning of our low cloud deck by afternoon. With a mild start in the 60s, highs in the 70s still look on track.

SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 AM MONDAY/
As of 500 AM Sun...Behind the cold front mentioned above, it will be a much cooler and drier night with lows back into the 40s. Some patchy fog is again possible late and will be most likely where we have some rain today. Falling dewpoints however will keep it from becoming widespread like the past few nights.

LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/
As of 3 AM Sunday...

Monday - Tuesday...A mid-level trough will sweep across the Midwest causing a cold front to traverse ENC overnight into Tuesday. This front looks dry with the only impacts on sensible weather being cooler temps and an uptick in winds. Highs Monday will be in the mid to upper 60s and at or just below 60 on Tuesday. Lows both nights will be in the mid to upper 30s across the coastal plain (near 50 at beaches).

Wednesday...Another mid-level trough will dig into the SECONUS early Wednesday. This system's cold front may support some showers along the beaches, but its passage will be felt more in terms of increased winds over the water and cooler overnight temps. Lows were decreased by a couple of degrees with this update and now sit near 30 inland (40 at beaches).

Thursday - Saturday...High pressure sets in behind Wednesday's FROPA and begins a warming trend that will last through the weekend (low 50s Thursday, low to mid 60s Saturday).

AVIATION /10Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/
SHORT TERM /through Tonight/...
As of 130 AM Sun...VFR conditions now will drop to MVFR in the next few hours due to mainly low clouds. Some IFR cigs possible between 09Z and 13Z, especially inland terminals (KISO/KPGV).

Slow improvement the rest of today to VFR, first at KOAJ and KEWN but not until closer to 21Z inland terminals.

LONG TERM /Monday through Thursday/...
As of 3 AM Sunday...Pred VFR through the period. Showers are possible near the coast on Wednesday, but the FA should remain dry otherwise. As always, fog is possible each morning. The main feature of note are the gustier winds expected on Wednesday as a cold front passes. Winds will be NW 10-15 kt with 15-20 kt gusts. Closer to the water, gusts could be closer to 25 kt.

MARINE
SHORT TERM /through Tonight/...
As of 430 AM Sunday...Areas of dense fog are possible over the waters this morning, especially south of Cape Lookout.

Light and variable winds this morning over most of the waters, but still southwest 10 to 20 closer to the Gulf Stream, south of Cape Hatteras. As the gradient over the waters increase by this afternoon, winds will pick up, again especially over the outer central and southern waters. Here gusts to 25 kts likely through tonight, with much lighter winds elsewhere. Seas will build to 4 to 6 feet later today.

A cold front will cross the waters tonight, shifting winds into the northwest. Winds will diminish to under SCA conditions, with lingering seas falling below 6 feet late tonight.

LONG TERM /Monday through Thursday/...

As of 4 AM Sunday...

Monday - Tuesday...Monday and Wednesday will both present SCA conditions. South of Cape Hatteras, NW winds will increase from 10 to 20+ kt with gusts to 25-30 kt. North of Cape Hatteras should remain in the 10-15 kt range with gusts to 20 kt. Seas will generally be 3-4 ft but build to 5 ft south of Ocracoke Inlet Monday night. Seas lay down to 2-3 ft on Tuesday as the winds become variable and relax to around 10 kt.

Wednesday...Seas and NW winds gradually increase overnight Tuesday through the early morning hours on Thursday. The peak will be Wednesday night when winds reach 25-30 kt across all marine zones with gusts to Gales (35-40 kt) for a few hours. Seas will peak late Wednesday night at 5-9 ft. Winds and seas will relax early Thursday morning and be back to 10-15 kt and 3-5 ft by the end of the day.

MHX WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES
