New AVIATION
SHORT TERM
(Today)
Issued at 331 AM CDT Sat Jul 27 2024
A weak upper low near the Oklahoma/Arkansas border will drift slowly north today. Despite this system in the vicinity, the trend in all model guidance has been for shower and storm coverage to remain rather limited again today, and mainly confined to the eastern part of the forecast area. Afternoon high temperatures will generally range from the mid 80s to near 90.
LONG TERM
(Tonight through Friday)
Issued at 331 AM CDT Sat Jul 27 2024
As the upper low lifts north and northeast away from the area, a significant warming trend will develop beginning Sunday with increasing south winds. Isolated showers and storms will remain possible Sunday in the far eastern part of the forecast area, but generally dry weather will prevail after that for much of next week. An upper ridge will build into the area from the west resulting in hot and humid conditions through the week, with heat headlines likely needed in the Monday through Friday time frame.
It still appears the upper ridge will retrograde some by the end of next week which may allow a weak frontal boundary to sag south into our area. This may result in slightly less hot temperatures by next Friday or Saturday, but any rain chances remain unclear at this point in time.
AVIATION
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 632 AM CDT Sat Jul 27 2024
A period of MVFR conditions across Southeast Oklahoma and far Northwest Arkansas should give way to scattered/broken mid and high clouds late morning through the afternoon hours. Shower/storm potentials remain mainly for Northwest Arkansas and will continue with Prob30 groups for timing of greater potential. Gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall are possible within the convection.
Saturday evening through Saturday night the area of low pressure is progged to lift into Missouri with a trof axis holding over the CWA
Thus
will continue with high clouds and few to scattered mid clouds overnight. There is potential for a period of MVFR near the end of the TAF period in Northwest Arkansas.
