SYNOPSIS
Issued at 856 PM PST Mon Nov 27 2023
A clear sky and light winds will allow temperatures to cool quickly again overnight, the coldest low temperatures will be in the valleys Tuesday morning. Dry conditions otherwise prevailing through the day on Tuesday. Rainy conditions return Tuesday night with a wet and unsettled pattern to last into the weekend.
UPDATE
Issued at 934 PM PST Mon Nov 27 2023
A Freeze Warning remains in effect for the southern Salinas Valley, Arroyo Seco and Lake San Antonio 10 pm tonight to 9 am Tuesday. A Frost Advisory remains in effect for the North Bay valleys, and recently including issuing a Frost Advisory for the East Bay valleys 10 pm tonight to 9 am Tuesday. Cirrus clouds remain mainly thin so far and global model forecasts indicate only a decrease in cirrus clouds for the overnight hours, allowing improved radiational cooling to space. Lowered forecast low temperatures a few degrees for Tuesday morning from the East Bay Valleys and SF Bay Shoreline southward. Also added in below the record low temperatures for the long term sites for Nov 28th.
SHORT TERM
(This evening through Tuesday)
Issued at 121 PM PST Mon Nov 27 2023
After another cold start to the day, temperatures are expected to peak in the upper 40s in the region's highest peaks, 50s near the coast, and mid 60s across the interior. Have issued a Frost Advisory for the North Bay Valleys and Freeze Warning for the southern Salinas Valley for tonight/tomorrow morning.
More of the same for tomorrow ahead of a frontal boundary that will move through the region late in the evening and into Wednesday morning.
LONG TERM
(Tuesday night through next Sunday)
Issued at 121 PM PST Mon Nov 27 2023
The North Bay Mountains will see 0.50" to 0.75" with much of the Bay Area and the rest of the coast seeing 0.15" to 0.35" while less than 0.15" is expected for the interior East Bay, Santa Clara Valley, Salinas Valley, and San Benito County with this passing system.
Unsettled conditions with cooler daytime temperatures will persist throughout the remainder of the week. A series of weak systems will pass across the region in the Thursday through Saturday timeframe, yet precipitation amounts will be minimal.
By early next week, the focus for more widespread rain shifts farther north. This is reflected in the 6-10 and 8-14 Day Precipitation Outlooks.
AVIATION
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 943 PM PST Mon Nov 27 2023
VFR conditions expected to continue through the overnight hours as weak offshore flow continues, keeping the region dry. At the surface, light winds will prevail. A weak surface low pressure is still expected to approach the SF Bay Area Tuesday night into Wednesday. As the system approaches tomorrow afternoon, winds will shift southerly but expected to remain generally under 10 knots across the region. Guidance is hinting that winds will shift SW briefly during the afternoon Tuesday before shifting more SE as the system gets closer. VCSH and -RA chances begin after 04-06z tomorrow night. Moderate to high confidence that VFR persists through the TAF period, but heavier rain just beyond the TAF period (later Wed morning) may result in lowered visbys/cigs.
Vicinity of SFO...Light winds and FEW-SCT high clouds prevail.
Benign conditions expected across Bay Area terminals through the overnight hours. Light to breezy southerly winds expected tomorrow afternoon. KOAK may briefly turn onshore (NW) during the afternoon. Increasing chance for rain late Tuesday into Wednesday.
Highest confidence that rain will start after 10 PM Tuesday persisting overnight into Wed morning.
SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to SFO.
Monterey Bay Terminals...SE winds continue overnight, increasing across the Salinas Valley through the night. Winds expected to shift westerly tomorrow afternoon. Rain chances are just beyond the TAF period, so stay tuned for the 12z TAF package.
