Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Sacramento CA 102 PM PDT Thu Oct 10 2024
Synopsis
Our cooling trend continues through this week with a weak weather system bringing light rain late Friday night into Saturday north of I-80. Below to near normal temperatures are expected to continue through next week.
Discussion
The cooling trend continues today, with 12PM temperatures already 2 to 10 degrees cooler than they were at the same time yesterday.
High clouds are moving quickly across interior NorCal as well, with onshore flow bringing those lower temps and slightly higher relative humidities.
A weak shortwave trough will bring daytime highs down a few more degrees on Friday, with Valley temperatures ranging from the low to mid 80s. Additionally, this will bring breezy onshore winds on Friday and light precipitation early Saturday(primarily north of I-80 with highest chances in and along the northern Coastal Range). Rainfall totals will be somewhat limited, ranging generally between 0.10 and 0.25 inches over a 24 hour period from late Friday to late Saturday. The majority of rain will occur early Saturday. Temperatures Saturday will be near to slightly below normal. On Sunday, ridging will briefly attempt to build back into the area, bringing temperatures back up to normal and making conditions generally dry and calm.

.EXTENDED DISCUSSION (Monday THROUGH Thursday)...
Calm, dry conditions continue through early next week, with Valley highs generally in the low to mid 80s. Mid-next week, a stronger trough will progress inland from the eastern Pacific, bringing temperatures back down to the 70s. Some ensemble solutions are showing potential for the low to drop down over California from the north. If that pattern occurs, this would likely bring a north wind event mid to late next week. There is still quite a bit of uncertainty with this system so other solutions are still very possible (including some solutions involving light precipitation in the region); regardless we will be keeping an eye on the evolution of the pattern over the next couple of days to monitor any potential for elevated fire weather concerns next week.
AVIATION
VFR conditions over interior NorCal next 24 hrs outside of localized areas of smoke/haze across the Northern Sacramento Valley affecting KRDD through Fri 18Z. Sfc wind mainly below 12 kts outside of gusts up to 15 kts in the vicinity of the Delta.
STO WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES
None.
