SYNOPSIS
Gradually warmer temperatures and quiet weather are anticipated to begin early this week. An active weather pattern is expected to return Friday and into the weekend.
SHORT TERM
Today through Tuesday night
Current satellite imagery shows partly cloudy skies in the wake of an upper level wave pushing east, leaving the region under dry, zonal flow. A warming trend is expected to begin early this week.
Highs today will reach into the upper 50s to mid 60s with overnight lows ranging from the 30s to 40s. West-northwest winds of 10 to 15 mph will lead breezy conditions, with gusts up to 25 mph.
By Tuesday, a Pacific Northwest trough will contribute to a slight increase in 500 mb heights, supporting another day of above normal temperatures across the forecast area. West-southwest winds of 10 to 15 mph will lead breezy conditions, with gusts up to 30 mph. A weak disturbance embedded in the southwesterly flow will bring a slight chance (less than a 15%) of precipitation across White Pine County Tuesday afternoon. Otherwise, quiet conditions persist Tuesday night as overnight lows reach the upper 30s and lower 40s.
LONG TERM
Wednesday through Sunday
Fair weather conditions to start the midweek with highs Wednesday in the 60s to 70s, lows in the 30s, along with some breezy northwesterly winds at 10-15 mph.
Thursday and Friday will see a shift in weather pattern as upper ridging and trough create a widen zonal flow over the western U.S.
keeping temperatures in the 60s to 70s with afternoon winds increasing in the afternoons from the south at 10-15 mph on Thursday, and 15-20 mph on Friday. Less than 20% chance of isolated rain showers Thursday across eastern Nevada, however precipitation amounts remain light at this time. Friday, greater chances up to 35% across northern Nevada ahead of the next low pressure system over the weekend.
Ensemble models are showing increasing confidence of the low pressure system reaching into northern Nevada over the weekend, however there are still some discrepancies on the position of the central low which may determine how much precipitation is expected. As of now, chances for isolated showers up to 50% both Saturday and Sunday along northern Nevada and reaching over the US-50 corridor. Cooler temperature trend associated with the low pressure system, dropping highs into the 50s to 60s throughout the weekend. Overnight lows in the 30s each night with a few areas dropping into the 20s near mountains. Afternoon winds from the west at 10-15 mph.
AVIATION
VFR conditions over the next 24 hour period at all terminals. Lingering isolated showers from last nights weather may cause VCSH near KEKO early morning and is expected to dissipate. Cloud cover around 10000 feet across all terminals in the morning and is expected to clear out in the afternoon. Light westerly/northwesterly winds at or below 10 kts with chances of some breezy gusts 10-15 kts possible.
LKN Watches/Warnings/Advisories
None.
