KEY MESSAGES
* Pleasant Easter Sunday with a seasonal afternoon warm-up.
* Dry and warm conditions hold through midweek, with afternoon breezes each day.
* A shift to cooler and potentially wetter weather develops late week into the weekend.
DISCUSSION
Easter Sunday has arrived with tranquil spring weather across the region. Early morning temperatures were milder than recent days under clear skies, setting up a comfortable start to outdoor festivities. This afternoon, expect daytime highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s for western Nevada valleys, and 60s across Sierra valleys. A modest increase in west winds gusting 20-30 mph in exposed locations may ruffle lake surfaces and lightweight decorations later today, especially across the Tahoe Basin and Pyramid Lake.
A weak upper disturbance will sweep across northern California and Nevada this afternoon into the evening. While most locations stay dry, there's a slight chance (10-15%) of isolated high-elevation showers near the Eastern Sierra crest, the Oregon border, and areas west of Highway 395 in Lassen County. Any activity would be brief and localized.
Looking into the workweek, minimal change is expected through Wednesday. Daily highs will remain 5-10 degrees above normal under mostly sunny skies, with westerly afternoon breezes persisting each day. Tuesday could bring a secondary uptick in winds and a minor shower threat across northeast California as another weak shortwave passes north of the region.
By Thursday into the weekend, confidence increases in a pattern shift. Ensemble guidance shows a broad upper trough developing over the Oregon and northern California, likely ushering in cooler temperatures and a rising chance for showers across the Sierra and western Nevada. The GEFS and ECMWF-ENS seem to be in good agreement, so forecast confidence is medium at this point for late this week.
Stay tuned as forecast details are refined in the coming days.

AVIATION
VFR will dominate through Monday across all terminals. Expect light westerly surface winds today, increasing to gusts of 20-25 kts by mid to late afternoon—strongest near the Sierra and western Nevada airports including KTRK, KTVL, and KRNO. FL090 winds strengthen this afternoon to around 25 kts across western Nevada and northeast CA, which could bring light to moderate turbulence to these areas.
