Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Mount Holly NJ 714 PM EDT Thu Apr 30 2026
WHAT HAS CHANGED
A Frost Advisory has been issued for Carbon and Monroe counties in PA.
KEY MESSAGES
1. Patchy frost expected in the Poconos this evening.
2. Weak low pressure passes through the region Friday night.
A stronger area of low pressure passes south and east of the coast on Saturday.
DISCUSSION
KEY MESSAGE 1...Patchy frost expected in the Poconos this evening.
The combination of light winds, mostly clear skies and temperatures dropping into the low 30s will create the potential for frost formation. Dew points based on soundings at MPO suggest that we'll achieve 100% relative humidity at or just above freezing so I dont anticipate widespread frost but in some of the colder valley locations I anticipate there to be sufficient moisture for light icing on sensitive vegetation and or some patchy ground fog.
KEY MESSAGE 2...Weak low pressure passes through the region Friday night. A stronger area of low pressure passes south and east of the coast on Saturday.
Weak low pressure passes through the region Friday night, bringing a quick shot of light precipitation.
A deep upper trough digs through the Midwest and Gulf Coast states. Surface low pressure then develops over the Southeast United States, and then lifts north towards the Mid-Atlantic during the day Saturday. The low then tracks east Sunday night.
Wraparound rain will spread back towards the coast, but the trend is for the heaviest rain to remain offshore. The highest PoPs will be over Delaware and extreme southeast New Jersey.
Even with higher chances for rainfall, the storm total rainfall is expected to remain less than a quarter of an inch. Cloudy skies and onshore flow will keep temperatures in the 50s to low 60s.
AVIATION /00Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Tonight...There are some showers around early this evening and some of these could produce some small (pea sized) hail and wind gusts to around 20 knots. These should diminish by mid mid evening. Otherwise, mainly VFR with NW winds generally 5-10 kts.
High confidence.
Friday...VFR with mostly clear skies. NW winds initially switching around to SW to southerly throughout the afternoon.
High confidence.
Outlook...
Friday through Friday night...VFR during the day, then sub-VFR possible at night in RA.
Saturday through Saturday night...Sub-VFR possible in RA.
Sunday through Monday...VFR.
MARINE
Sub-SCA conditions expected through overnight. Seas generally 3-4 ft with NW flow 10-15kts through the evening. Friday will see seas stay in the 3-4 ft range as light rain starts to spread north Friday evening. No SCA conditions expected through Saturday.
Outlook...
Friday through Monday...A brief period of SCA conditions possible on Sunday, and then widespread SCA conditions possible Monday afternoon.
PHI WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES
