SYNOPSIS
Breezy southerly winds will lead to unseasonably warm temperatures today. Showers and thunderstorms will develop across the area tonight and continue through the day on Saturday as a cold front moves into the Ohio Valley.
NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/
The warm front has moved off to our northeast early this morning with our area now into the warm sector. Persistent southwest flow will continue aloft today with a secondary low level jet working back in from the west through this afternoon. Some mid and high level clouds can be expected at times today but in the good WAA, temperatures will push well above normal with afternoon highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s. With some daytime mixing, breezy conditions will develop today with some wind gusts in the 30 to 40 mph range this afternoon.
SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH 6 PM SATURDAY/
A cold front will approach from the west tonight. In continued southwest flow ahead of this, temperatures will remain very mild with overnight lows remaining mostly in the 60s. Showers and thunderstorms ahead of the front will begin to spread into our area from the northwest after midnight. However, with weakening instability across our area, expect an overall weakening trend in the pcpn as it overspreads our area later tonight. Will keep the highest pops across our northwest and then taper back to chance pops further to the southeast.
The cold front will continue to push slowly southeast across our area through the day on Saturday, with widespread showers and embedded thunderstorms continuing along it. Instability looks to be fairly marginal though, so this should help limit the overall severe threat during the day on Saturday. Temperatures will range from the upper 60s in the northwest to the lower 80s in our southeast.
LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/
The extended period of shower and storm chances continues on Saturday night into Sunday as a stalled front meanders over the area. There is no clear signal for exactly when coverage may peak.
Instead, just an extended period of low to moderate shower/storm chances continues. Temperatures remain cooler across the north and warmer south of the Ohio River.
On Sunday night into Monday, a low pressure system approaches from the southwest and lifts the stalled boundary north as a warm front before a cold front pushes through later Monday. Southerly flow ahead of the front keeps warm, moist air in place along with shower/storm chances. Severe chances remain low since instability appears to be very weak.
Cooler and drier air moves across the region Tuesday and Wednesday before southerly flow and rain chances redevelop for the end of the week.
AVIATION /07Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/
A warm front has lifted northeast of our area early this morning.
South to southwest flow will continue through the TAF period ahead of a cold front approaching from the west. A strong low level jet will lead to the potential for LLWS through mid morning and then again tonight. Southwest surface winds will increase through the day with sustained winds later this morning and this afternoon to around 20 knots with gusts in the 30-35 knot range possible. Otherwise, VFR conditions will prevail into tonight. Some shower and thunderstorm activity will develop across our western areas late tonight so will include a prob 30 for -tsra at the tail end of the 30 hour KCVG TAF.
OUTLOOK.. MVFR/IFR conditions possible along with a chance of thunderstorms Saturday into Saturday night. Some MVFR CIGs are possible early Sunday.
