UPDATE
(Issued 913 AM CST Sun Dec 10 2023)
There are some flurries across southeast Wisconsin. Northwest winds will diminish to around 10 mph today. Overcast skies will likely continue into the evening with clearing tonight.

SHORT TERM
(Issued 406 AM CST Sun Dec 10 2023)
Today through Wednesday:
Light snow, that looked a bit more robust over central WI, has decreased in coverage and intensity this morning as the band has moved closer to the Lake Michigan shoreline. Any remaining snow should dissipate heading toward dawn as favorable DPVA from the shortwave aloft should outpace the eastward advance of convergence from the sfc cold front that is currently working southeast over the area.
Otherwise, today should feature some gusty northwest winds from 25 to 30 mph this morning immediately along and behind the sfc cold front. These winds will remain northwesterly, but gradually ease throughout the day as high pressure works into the area by tonight. Clouds will linger for most of the day, but there may be some late day clearing for areas around Madison and westward.
Highs will be around freezing, but it may feel a bit more brisk when paired with the northwest winds.
High pressure should take hold on Monday with clearing skies and slightly warmer highs expected in the upper 30s. Monday night into Tuesday, a dry cold front should pass, pushing more cold air into the upper Great Lakes Region, with Tuesday and Wednesday remaining dry and sunny, but seasonable with highs right around freezing.

LONG TERM
(Issued 328 AM CST Sun Dec 10 2023)
Wednesday through Saturday:
High pressure around 1040 mb will slowly move across srn WI and nrn IL on Wed, then settling over the Ohio River Valley for Thu- Fri. Aloft, a broad upper ridge over the Canadian Rockies and nrn USA Rockies Tue nt will move across the Great Lakes on Thu. An upper trough moving across central Canada will then flatten the ridge as it moves ewd. Temperatures near seasonal normals are expected Wed, but swly winds and warm advection will then prevail into Fri. Thus high temperatures will warm into the 40s for the remainder of the week. A weak shortwave trough, sfc low, and associated cold front may then affect srn WI late Fri into Sat, but there is uncertainty whether these features will be robust enough for precipitation. Slight chances (20%) for light rain and snow are forecast for now.

AVIATION
(Issued 913 AM CST Sun Dec 10 2023)
Ceilings around 1400-2000 are expected to linger through the day.
There is some uncertainty when the the clearing line will move through southern Wisconsin, but latest trends are for it to occur later, sometime during the evening or later overnight. Northwest winds will diminish to around 10 knots today.

MARINE
(Issued 315 AM CST Sun Dec 10 2023)
Low pressure near James Bay will move farther northeast with time through today. Currently the low is dragging a cold front across Lake Michigan, causing gusty west to northwest winds from 25 to 30 knots over much of the lake. These gusts should continue through the morning hours, then gradually ease going into the overnight hours as surface high pressure/ridging moves into the upper Great Lakes region by Monday morning.
Light northwesterly winds will then persist into Monday afternoon, then come around to southwesterly following the passage of the surface high/ridge. Southwest winds will then grow gusty Tuesday night ahead of an approaching cold front.
