SYNOPSIS
A weak front continues to move across Western Washington this afternoon with troughing moving east tonight.
A few showers lingering Tuesday into Wednesday with troughing to the north. Upper ridging then builds into the Pacific Northwest for drier, warmer weather through the weekend. More active weather likely next week.
SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/
Clouds with rain moving across Western Washington this afternoon associated with a frontal system moving across the area. Showers will continue into this evening, with a weak convergence zone possible in the central Puget Sound. Showers tonight will be more confined into areas south of Snohomish County, particularly in the Cascades. A few showers may be around on Tuesday, but generally drier conditions are expected with at least some clearing possible in the afternoon.
Upper ridging begins to build offshore Tuesday night into Wednesday. However, troughing will move across BC/Alberta during the period, which will allow for at least the potential of light rain showers Tuesday night into Wednesday, with further clearing in the clouds later Wednesday. The upper ridge will build further into Western Washington on Thursday. This will lead to drier conditions and warmer temperatures. Fog development is likely Wednesday night into Thursday for a good portion of the lowlands, and will have to monitor the extent of fog Thursday morning into Thursday afternoon in regards to high temperatures. In general, temperatures in the 60s Tuesday and Wednesday will slowly warm into the upper 60s and low 70s in spots on Thursday.
LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY/
The upper ridge will be located across the Pacific Northwest Friday into Saturday for drier weather and warmer temperatures. Again, fog development is likely for at least Thursday night into Friday. Temperatures during this period will be dependent on the fog extent, but generally ranging 5 to 15 degrees above normal. The upper ridge slowly progresses eastward later Saturday into Sunday. Ensemble guidance is generally consistent in increasing troughing offshore and into the Pacific Northwest late Sunday and into early next week. This looks to be begin another period of more active weather for the area with increasing rain potential. JD
AVIATION
Northwesterly flow aloft as a front pushes through the region this afternoon. Light rain is being observed region wide as conditions at terminals are a mixed bag between MVFR/IFR/LIFR.
Within areas of heavier rain, local visibilities have been ranging from 3 to 5 sm and will last into the early evening. Guidance is hinting at a convergence zone development around 22z-02z, south of KPAE, but it looks rather weak. Convergence zone activity will begin to taper around 03z-05z. MVFR/IFR conditions will likely continue into the evening through area terminals as sufficient low level moisture keeps lower clouds around. Patchy fog will be possible Tuesday morning into the early afternoon through the interior terminals as a more stable airmass enters, with conditions likely to deteriorate if fog moves over a terminal (IFR/LIFR).
KSEA...Lower ceilings at the terminal this afternoon have given way to mostly IFR conditions. Ceilings likely will pop up to 1000 to 2000 feet this afternoon into the evening, with a switch between IFR to MVFR conditions at times as the front exits the region. A convergence zone may develop just north of the terminal, with the terminal being on the southern edge of the zone.
Ceilings may dip below 1000 feet around 22z-02z especially if the zone clips the terminal, with a couple of stray rain showers.
Showers will likely end around 03z-05z, with MVFR ceilings staying around through the overnight and into Tuesday morning. Southerly winds 4 to 8 knots through the evening.
MARINE
A frontal system has moved through the waters this afternoon, with onshore flow increasing behind the frontal system. A westerly push through the Strait of Juan De Fuca this afternoon will bring elevated winds, but will remain under SCA thresholds, around 10 to 20 kts.
Onshore flow will weaken tonight with increasing northwesterlies over the coastal waters. These northwesterlies will stay under small craft advisory thresholds, but cannot rule out a gust or two above SCA, especially in the outer waters. A thermally induced trough will start to develop near the coastline by midweek then shift inland Friday into Saturday - with possible small craft advisory easterlies through the Central and Eastern Strait on Thursday.
Coastal seas 4 to 6 feet this afternoon building to 6 or 8 feet into tonight and through Tuesday. Seas will gradually subside back to around 4 to 6 feet by midweek.

HYDROLOGY
No river flooding is expected through the next seven days.
