Synopsis for the northern and central washington coastal and inland waters..A surface ridge will build over the coastal waters today and then shift inland on Tuesday. A weakening front will move across the area waters Wednesday into Thursday. Another weak frontal system looks to move into the waters late in the week.

UPDATE
No changes have been made to this evening's update.
Overnight lows will fall into the low 40s with mostly cloudy skies. The previous discussion remains below along with an updated marine/aviation section.

SYNOPSIS
Upper level trough will continue to influence the area today with just some showers around. A weak upper level ridge will build in on Monday into Tuesday for quieter weather conditions. A weak system looks to move in late Wednesday into Thursday for increased precipitation chances. Another ridge looks to build in by the end of the week.



SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/
The frontal system that impacted our area yesterday has sagged south into Northern Oregon this afternoon. Latest radar imagery shows light showers in the Cascades, but generally expect any precipitation to be more showery and gradually tapering off into tonight. High temperatures today generally in the upper 40s into lower 50s. All the winter headlines have expired earlier this morning, with snow levels generally around 5000 to 6000 feet.

A weak upper level ridge looks to build offshore into Monday, lowering precipitation chances even more. Looking like a general drier day with snow levels lowering back down to around to around 3000 feet. There will likely be some light snow showers around in the passes tomorrow, but little to no accumulation is expected.

The aforementioned ridge will continue to build into Tuesday which may result in some sky clearing and fog to return in the morning.
Fog may stay around for a bit in the afternoon so high temps will mainly be in the mid to upper 40s, with lows in the upper 30s.

Guidance and models are showing our next front arriving Wednesday night into Thursday. This front looks rather weak but will give Western Washington some light rain.

LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/
The front will continue to move through the area on Thursday with light precipitation over W WA. Cluster and ensembles are starting to agree that another ridge will start to build into the area Friday into Saturday for generally quieter weather. High temps look to stay in the upper 40s to lower 50s throughout most of the long term forecast.

AVIATION
West to northwest flow aloft continues over Western Washington with a moist low level air mass in place. Lingering showers remain persistent across the Cascades and across northern Puget Sound with weak convergence leading to these to continue. The abundant low level moisture and weak surface gradients will support fairly widespread IFR to LIFR ceilings across much of the area with visibilities restricted in fog and low clouds. Expect some gradual improvement Monday morning after daybreak with widespread MVFR ceilings from late morning though much of the day, before another round of low clouds returning Monday night.

KSEA...A challenging forecast at the terminal as very low clouds briefly brought localized LIFR conditions to the terminal for an hour or so. Expect light southerly surface winds and predominantly IFR ceilings through the balance of the evening, with a few hours of light northerly winds (up to 3-4 kt) possible as weak convergence to the north may eventually slide south through 08z. Overall, though, expect light/calm winds and IFR ceilings to become the dominant issue through the morning push, before slow improvement Monday morning.



MARINE
Winds across area waters will become light tonight in the wake of a cold front. With seas easing into the 8 to 9 ft range across the waters, have expired the lingering small craft advisory for the coastal waters early ahead of the scheduled 10 PM expiration time. Surface high pressure will build across the coastal waters on Monday then shift inland on Tuesday for offshore flow. A weak frontal system then crosses the wasters late Wednesday into early Thursday. This latter system will bring a return of seas to around 10 feet as the next swell train arrives.



HYDROLOGY
The Skokomish river is nearing its crest this afternoon. A Flood Watch continues for Lewis, Thurston and Grays Harbor county for the possibility of portions of the Chehalis and Newaukum rivers reaching flood stage this afternoon into Monday morning.

Hydrologically significant precipitation will be done with by later today over the entire area. The front later in the week will not cause much in the way of rises on the rivers.

The threat of landslides remain early this afternoon, but will generally decrease as snow levels lower into Monday.
