UPDATE
Satellite imagery shows weak upper level low off the Oregon coast. Bands of moisture spinning around the low moving into Western Washington the next two days. Currently there is a band over the Central Puget Sound with smaller bands over Lewis County and moving into Northwest Oregon. With the southwesterly flow aloft these bands will move through the area later today. Air mass becoming slightly unstable this afternoon. 12z models are a little more unstable than the previous run with lifted indexes a little lower ( around -2 ) and CAPE a little higher ( 200-400 j/kg ) but the convective temperatures this afternoon are in the mid 50s. With all of the cloud cover today and temperatures mostly in the mid 40s at 9 am it's going to be hard to get to the mid 50s. With the chances for a thunderstorm 10% or less they are not mentioned in the forecast. Will stay with this thought and not update the forecast this morning. Previous forecast discussion below with updated aviation section. Felton

SYNOPSIS
A series of weak fronts will move across the area through mid week with an upper low offshore. Ridging to build into the Pacific Northwest later Thursday into early Saturday for drier weather. A more active system Sunday into next week heavier precipitation and cooler temperatures.

SHORT TERM /TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY/
An upper low will generally meander northward along the Oregon and Washington coast through early Thursday bringing periods of light precipitation to western Washington. The system offshore will slowly track northwards Wednesday into early Thursday, bringing continued periods of showers and cloudy skies. Ridging will then begin to build into the area for drying conditions and clearing skies late Thursday. Temperatures through Wednesday in the low to mid 50s for highs, with slight warming on Thursday.

LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY/
Upper ridging expected across the Pacific Northwest on Friday with an upper low well offshore of California for drier weather across the area. Ensemble guidance suggests the ridge begins to flatten later on Saturday, perhaps increasing precipitation potential in the North Cascades.
The primary focus for more impactful weather across western Washington will begin Sunday and continue into early next week with troughing developing over British Columbia and northern Pacific Northwest. The pattern will become cooler beginning Sunday along with periods of heavier precipitation. In general, lowland rain and heavier mountain snow expected on Sunday into Sunday night, with cooler onshore flow on Monday and lowering snow levels. Continue to monitor the forecast if you're traveling over the Passes later this weekend. Otherwise, warming temperatures in the 50s on Friday will cool into the mid 40s by Monday across the area. JD

AVIATION
Light rain showers continue to move north across the region this morning. CIGs are expected to gently rising back to VFR this afternoon into this evening. Fog mainly limited to KOLM southward and across the islands. Winds light and variable to calm this morning will become generally southerly to southeasterly at around 5-8 kt today. Southerly winds will increase Wednesday morning between 10-15z with widespread sustained winds of 8-14 kt.
Showers will continue off and on through Wednesday.

KSEA...Mainly VFR conditions with light rain moving through the region. Temporary reductions possible in shower activity.
Winds light and variable will become south/southeasterly today and into this evening. Southerly winds will increase Wednesday morning after 14-15z. Showers will continue off and on through Wednesday.

MARINE
A weak low pressure system is currently sitting offshore, west of the Oregon coast, and will slowly lift northward into the coastal waters of Washington later today into tomorrow, weakening as it moves northward. Gusty winds look to approach Small Craft Advisory threshold over the coastal waters tomorrow, with the highest probabilities over the waters south of Point Grenville. As such, will continue the Small Craft Advisory (for both winds and seas) without changes for the coastal waters through tonight.

As the system continues to work its way northward, south/southwesterly winds look to increase through Admiralty Inlet and into the East Entrance to the Strait of Juan de Fuca, with current guidance indicating a 30-40% probability of reaching SCA criteria tomorrow. Winds weaken going into Thursday with broad high pressure developing until a frontal system approaches by the end of the weekend.

Seas 6 to 8 ft will rise with the incoming system to around 10 to 12 ft today, particularly in the outer coastal waters. Seas will descend back to 5 to 7 ft beginning tomorrow remain so through Saturday before a frontal system will bring with it elevated seas by the end of the weekend.
