Marine Weather and Tide Forecast for Anchor Point, AK

.SHORT TERM FORECAST SOUTHWEST ALASKA/BERING SEA/ALEUTIANS (Days 1 through 3)...

An occluded front stretches from Southwest Alaska back across the Pribilof Islands and Eastern Aleutians this morning, attached to a North Pacific low situated southeast of Unalaska. Widespread light precipitation is pushing onshore across the Southwest this morning, with most of the precipitation falling as rain with temperatures in the mid 30s. There may be some snow mixing in this morning before southeasterly winds increase along with warming temperatures. Over the AKPen, most locations will see a continuation of southeasterly winds and rain as a surface trough / weak cold front moves across the region, ahead of the surface low.

To the north and west, areas of snow are falling across the Pribilofs. This band of snow will remain over the region through the day as the front stalls and weakens. Farther west, the occluded front is bending back as a cold front, with gusty northwesterly winds producing mixed rain/snow showers for the western half of the Bering and Aleutians. This will continue into Wednesday before tapering off as the low continues to track east.

The showery regime will continue into Wednesday and beyond as the low drifts over the AKPen and into Bristol Bay. It eventually slides southeast for Thursday as a colder northwesterly flow dominates the eastern two thirds of the Bering and Aleutians.

.LONG TERM FORECAST (Days 4 through 7/Friday through Monday)...

A large elongated trough with a NW - SE axis stretching from Siberia to the Gulf of Alaska will keep the eastern Bering Sea and most of western Alaska under low pressure for the start of the long term forecast period. Broad cyclonic flow and excess moisture will allow showery precipitation to persist for much of Aleutians and Southwest AK. The embedded closed low that brought moderate to high rates of precipitation to coastal Southcentral midweek will slowly dissipate. However, continued damp onshore flow will allow periods of rain and mountain snow through the weekend.

A shortwave trough swinging through the Aleutians will pivot the Bering low pressure system into the Gulf of Alaska on Sunday.
Model guidance has been trending this system farther northwest, slightly increasing north Gulf coast precipitation and wind magnitudes for Sunday and Monday.



AVIATION

PANC... Scattered rain showers and MVFR conditions will continue into late this morning as a weak wave crosses Anchorage. This will taper to isolated rain showers this afternoon as a result of downsloping winds. Winds turn northerly this evening into the overnight hours diminishing the chance for Turnagain Arm winds making their way to the airport.
