KEY MESSAGES

- Dry weather pattern through next week

- Cooler today (Thursday) with a warming trend into the weekend

- Strong cold front brings cooler conditions for Monday of next week

SHORT TERM
(Today through Friday)
Issued at 1227 AM CDT Thu Mar 12 2026

A cold front pushed across South Central Texas mid to late afternoon into Wednesday evening. In the wake of the frontal boundary, breezy to gusty conditions are in place and forecast to continue overnight through midday Thursday. Northerly winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are forecast to stay through the period. Can't rule out a few locations reaching Wind Advisory criteria (26 mph or more) for a few hours. Otherwise, a cool overnight period is in store with lows dropping into the 40s most places and lower 50s along the Rio Grande. Wind chill values in the lower 30s across portions of the Hill Country and southern Edwards Plateau and upper 30s and 40s across the I-35 corridor and Coastal Plains areas with lower 50s along the Rio Grande.

The surface high pressure system responsible for the breezy and gusty northerly winds shifts to the east during the afternoon. The winds then relax and start to shift to the southeast with speeds of 10 mph or less with occasional wind gusts up to 20 mph. Highs are forecast to stay cooler and slightly below normal average ranging from the mid 60s to lower 70s areawide under sunny skies.

Elevated fire weather concerns may exist for few hours along the I- 35 corridor and nearby locations as minimum relative humidity values drop to the lower to mid 20s with wind speeds around 10 mph.

A clear night is in store with light winds and overnight lows in the 40s areawide.

By Friday, the southerly winds are at full force and a warming trend begins with highs back into the upper 70s to mid 80s along the Rio Grande. Another clear night but warmer is forecast for the late Friday night/overnight period with lows in the upper 40s and 50s.

LONG TERM
(Friday night through Wednesday)
Issued at 1227 AM CDT Thu Mar 12 2026

The weekend is going to be a warm one with highs in the 80s across most places on Saturday and 90s for Sunday. Cloud coverage begins to increase and span across South Central Texas especially along and east of Highway 281 on Sunday morning. By the afternoon, most clouds are gone due to a good mixing.

The next cold front is moving fast across the local area early Sunday evening and exiting the Coastal Plains before midnight. This is a strong cold front forecast to push across the local area with strong winds out of the north in addition to the dry and cooler airmass. Monday's morning lows are set to be around the mid to upper 30s across the Hill Country and lower to upper 40s elsewhere. The dry front and breezy to gusty conditions bring great chances for elevated to near critical conditions across most of South Central Texas. Monday's highs are forecast to range from the mid to upper 50s to mid 60s areawide.

Southerly winds quickly return across the local area on Tuesday with highs in the 70s. A warming trend is in store through at least the middle of next week with highs back into the mid to upper 70s and 80s.
