New AVIATION, MARINE

SYNOPSIS
Issued at 105 PM PST Thu Nov 30 2023

A band of showers comes through later today with unsettled weather for the next couple of days. Warmer and drier conditions develop over the weekend and continue through the early part of next week.

SHORT TERM
(This evening through Friday)
Issued at 105 PM PST Thu Nov 30 2023

Radar returns and satellite imagery show a band of showers coming into the coastal regions of northern California as a upper level shortwave impacts the Pacific Northwest and northern California coast. High resolution model output shows the showers moving south through our region, coming through the North Bay this afternoon, passing the SF Bay Area and Central Coast this evening before diminishing as it passes to our south. Rain totals will not be impressive with the coastal ranges seeing up to a tenth of an inch of rain, and everyone else seeing a few hundredths of an inch at most. Breezy onshore winds should continue through Friday as a high pressure system over the North Pacific and low pressure in the Great Basin create a robust onshore pressure gradient, albeit with lull during the night as diurnal wind patterns lessen the impact of the pressure gradient. Gusts up to 20-25 miles per hour are expected across the region today, with gusts somewhat diminished tomorrow.
High temperatures for today and tomorrow remain in the upper 50s to lower 60s in the lower elevations and the upper 40s to mid 50s in the higher elevations.

LONG TERM
(Friday night through next Wednesday)
Issued at 105 PM PST Thu Nov 30 2023

Unsettled northwesterly flow continues through the next couple of days, but the bulk of the moisture will be directed to the north of us across the Pacific Northwest and northern California. Up to 0.5" of rain is possible through the weekend for the Sonoma coastal range, but overall any rain we receive will be minor with even the most optimistic predictions not expecting wetting rain (over a tenth of an inch) for most of the region. High pressure will build at the surface and aloft through the weekend, with drier and warmer conditions as a result. Highs in the interior valleys could reach into the lower 70s for the early part of next week. The ridge begins to weaken in the middle part of next week, with upper level troughing approaching the west coast.

AVIATION
(00Z TAFS)
