KEY MESSAGES
* A significant warming trend is expected through next week, which will increase temperatures to near-20 degrees above-normal.
Minor to Moderate HeatRisk will develop next week and could pose health impacts to anyone unprepared for the unprecedented heat.
DISCUSSION
through Wednesday.
Not much change in the forecast and potential impacts as the main focus is the anomalously warm temperatures. Ridging will build in through Friday and temperatures will respond by jumping 3-5 degrees each day. By Friday, high temperatures will climb to 10-15 above normal. A weak shortwave will knock down the area of high pressure slightly late Friday through Sunday morning, which will slow the warming trend and keep temperatures stagnant (but still well above normal) through the weekend. Next week though, good agreement amongst ensembles that a strong ridge will build into the region and even warmer temperatures are expected as temperatures reach 20+ degrees above normal. There is a high chance (80%) for high temperatures in Las Vegas to exceed 90F starting Tuesday and continuing through the week. In Death Valley and the Colorado River Valley, the expectation is for high temperature to exceed 100F starting Tuesday or Wednesday. These anomalous temperatures will yield Minor-to-Moderate HeatRisk (Levels 1 and 2 of 4) across the region, impacting anyone without access to adequate cooling or hydration and are heat sensitive individuals. In addition- next week is Spring Break for many locations- if you have outdoor plans this weekend or next week, or if you are visiting the Southwest US from a cooler climate, prepare for summertime heat. Make sure to remain hydrated, wear light weight clothing, and don't forget the sunscreen if you are headed outdoors.
AVIATION

For the 00Z Forecast Package
Winds will generally follow diurnal patterns and remain 10 knots or less. The exceptions will along the Colorado River Valley near KIFP and KEED where elevated north winds are expected, particularly in the daylight hours with gusts of 15 to 25 knots expected.
